Hello, I have an s40 2.4, which is another version of the 2.4i engine, but power is limited to 140HP instead of 170HP (sold in the European market). I’ve been researching regarding the differences between both versions and everybody has told me that the only difference is the ECU programming and the gearbox ratios (longer for the weaker engine)
That’s why I’m thinking about re-program the ECU using BSR PPC, but I’d like to have some feedback before buying it. Have any of you upgraded your 2.4 engine? Any bad experience with BSR?
They claim that power is increased up to 178CV, so I think that “wear and tear” is not a problem considering that 2.4i output is 170CV.
Do you think that is worthy? (500€ for 38CV)
I’d like to have your comments
Thanks
Re: BSR PPC on 2.4 engine (ben_1.8i)

No dice. BSR's PPC is only for the T5 engine. To my understanding, there's no chip upgrade available for any other S40 engine.

The gain is mostly in the upper RPM where the 140 HP goes flat on torque. Depending on drivestyle it can happen that you won't notice that much with the added power.

Thanks Johann,

I agree with you, nevertheless I drive often on 2 lane roads, full of trucks, which I need to pass, so I guess that the upgrade would be helpful for high-revs overtaking.
Ahh... Never noticed that, probably since I've only investigated the T5 upgrade.
You learn something new everyday...

Re: (V50_T5)

I saw a long and detailed thread on this subject at a Finnish Volvo forum. I won't post a link because I suspect majority of people here won't understand a word of finnish...
The bottomline was that the 2.4 and 2.4i happen to be almost exactly the same engine, the biggest difference being the original ECU programming. So applying BSR PPC tuning to the 2.4i won't bring much bang for the buck but the 2.4 is a totally different case. I would go for it if I had the 2.4.
I think BSR also says that tuned you get exactly the same output from both of those engines.
