BSR ppc + downpipe

2460 Views 18 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  TheDane
Hey guys

Just bought the PPC and the downpipe. I already have the catback so I will now have Stage 3.

I'm installing the downpipe my self. Is there anything I need to pay attention to? Any bolts I need to order from Volvo?

I'm guessing the PPC is pretty easy to load in to the car.

Should I install the downpipe and run the car with that for a couple of days before I load the PPC or should I just do everything the same day?

Tips and tricks welcome

Hej,

I didn't install the DP nor exhaust myself but the mechanic that did told me the 3 bolts connecting the pipe were a pain in the ass. no need to wait, I uploaded the software as soon as I picked up the car.

enjoy

Ideally you want to do both in the same day. If you happen to install one before the other, just don't go rev crazy. Wait until both are in then you can let it rip.

If you have the PPC, I would try to get the car programmed. There is a high chance you'll get a "READ CAR" message.

OKay. The dp comes with new bolts so I can just cut out the old ones if they give me a hard time.

VolvoNB, what do you mean by a read car message?

I will recieve the parts friday and install saturday. So I will do it all the same day.

Thanks guys!

For most people, when they plug in the PPC in for the first time, the PPC does a series of checks and finds something slightly different then it expects. If this happens, a message on the PPC pops up and displays "READ CAR?". You just press enter and it will save the car settings. Then you plug in the PPC to your computer and upload it to RICA or BSR or even Heico HOP. Then they will send you the correct program. This also happens when the dealer updates the car's software. You repeat the process and get a new program. No big deal.

Okay. So I shouldn't expect it to work right away?

If you are the chosen one, it'll work right off the bat. I think odds are better nowadays. If it doesn't, the turn around time is like 1 day. It's usually a quick fix for the programmers. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I hope you're as knowledgeable as you sound confident about cutting out the downpipe bolts if they're stuck. I had one bolt snap off as I unbolted the factory downpipe from the turbo/exhaust manifold, and to this day, I have one less bolt holding my ATP downpipe in because there's something in my way...

This is a picture of two of the three bolts I "removed"...

Dude that sucks. What then with only two bolts in? It can't be tight :/

Well I'm surrounded by friends who are very good at cowboy solutions as we call them here.
So it shouldn't be a problem but look on swedespeed saturday for a topic saying "woo stage 3 is a bomb" or "Those god damn bolts suck!" and you'll know how it went.

Grab a can of PB blaster or free-all and spray the bolts a couple days in advance. Its going to stink a little when it burns off but may just be enough to penetrate and break down the rust a bit before having to remove them http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Thats a great idea. I will do that tomorrow since it is snowing here (wtf? I'm running summer tires).

I was thinking, how big is the OEM exhaust on the T5? 2"?

It seems that I am the chosen one. Everything works perfect. Had a bit of trouble with the lamda sensor from the cat but after a quick move with the intake manifold from a VW Golf II it came off

I will post a how to tomorrow with pics and stuff.

Btw. Stage 3 is awesome http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I switched back to factory tune while I troubleshoot some silly emissions problems I am having and OH. MY. GOD. does this car not even get out of it's own way now! I cannot wait to go back to tune...

You crazy Europeans with your many hours ahead of the US.... I miss Germany and real beer

I was in Dusseldorf for two months. Went to the Altstadt on the Rhine 3-4 times a week and had a few Dunkels or Alt Biers while watching ships go up and down. One of the best experiences of my life.
