I have no idea which one to choose. The BSR is so much cheaper than the PPC that I think that it is just worth it for that. Can anyone tell me what the 0-60 was on their car after just doing to PPC. I have a Volvo S40 T5 AWD automatic and the internet says it does 0-60 in like 7.1 seconds. Does anyone know what the 0-60 time will be after I install the BSR or the RICA?

RICA. Don't cheap out. Trust me on this. Many members including myself can attest to their terrible customer service (if you can even call it that).

But RICA was responsible for the "o noes RICA killed my ECU" fiasco.
My BSR Stage 1 is in the mail.
Wish me luck.

Personally, I'll probably end up going with iPd.

I've had a good experience with RICA and not that mess that other people had. VolvoNB and I were playing around a bit and he has a BSR tune with similar mods. I think our cars were practically even. BSR won't do a stage 3 tune like RICA will though, at least for automatics from what I understand.
IPD is a pretty damn reliable company with great customer service. I think theirs is one of the most expensive though. And I'm not even sure who has that tune around here.
Good luck!

Re: BSR or RICA for PPC (Garrett004)

The BSR tune is a "cookie cutter" tune. They only have 3 options.
I am leaning towards the RICA or the IPD one. The problem for me is I don't have a laptop and need it for teh IDP tune. Also consider what upgrades will cost and if they can do a customer tune based on your mods and a dyno.
I don't plan on doing anymore power mods since CA doesn't have 93 octane.
Since my car will be stuck in the ~260HP stage 1 state, BSR gets my money.
In my case, there's really no reason to spend $300 more for RICA stage 1.
A couple guys over at C30world have the IPD tune with the whole diagnostic package and stuff. That's like $1300.

From what the website says BSR is basically one of the best. I'm not looking to do anymore mods to my car after this, maybe just like a cold air intake and that's it. I want something to make my car really fast and be around 600 to 700 dollars. How much faster did it make your car go with the BSR stage one....going from stock to the improved chip? Was it a noticeable difference? I want someone that is just gonna make it rip.

Re: (Garrett004)

Lower octane increases the chance of detonation which is very bad for your motor.IPD or Rica are your best bets IPD cost a little more but you also get the diagnostics and datalogging which can come in handy.

So how does the IPD softloader work?
-Can I revert to the stock tune at any time?
-Can I run my own maps?
-If so, how versatile is it? What paramaters can I change?
-Do they have stages like other companies?
-If it was the first performance mod I did, and then decided to upgrade and do more intensive modifications, can I modify the tune?
-If so, how much is it going to cost me?

Re: (volvosince16)

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there a price jump from stage 1 to stage 2? Can I buy stage 2 off the bat and get both maps? Is there any benefit to getting this before any other mods?
I'm not too sure how my dealership is when it comes to mods and warranty, and imo it isn't worth the hassle. I had planned on purchasing parts and waiting to put them on, but if this is... "hideable" then I might consider getting it now.

Re: (Modernman)

I have the BSR PPC Stage 1 and the BSR intake. If you can wait 6 to 9 weeks for my results I'll be able to tell you how much of a difference it makes. Still waiting on my car to arrive in Japan and clear customs and then I'll install both and let you know what the difference between stock is like.
