Greetings;
My wife's S60's (2002, so no Xenon) passenger-side headlight apparently got hit by some flying debris early in the week. The glass has a neat little hole right smack in the middle of the lense.
Our friendly Volvo dealer took a look and say that we need a whole new light assembly ... at a not so friendly cost of about $400 CDN plus install!
Questions:
1-Can we change only the glass lense, any aftermarket solutions?
2-If we have to change the complete assembly, are there any non-oem parts available?
3-Anyone know of a salvage shop that could/would sell parts ?
I see that some parts can be bought on-line from Volvo dealers in the U.S.A, any recommendations? I would then change the assembly myself:
http://www.trademotion.com/par...=3197
TIA!

Re: Broken headlight lense - replacement options? (Dede)

Go to FC Groton online. Or run a search through Ebay. I think they run around 85 to 110 dollars and you can install it easily yourself. Nothing to break on the car, just be careful with the wires and plastic.
Have torx head screw drivers. you can easily do in under 1 hours even for a novice.

Re: Broken headlight lense - replacement options? (Dede)

This is why I have StonGard on both my and my wife's car's headlights...after reading about someone's S80 where the same thing happened, and it cost a similar amount (in USD) to fix.
I hate their new web site though, and I can't see that they even sell just the headlight protection kits anymore. Back in 2002, sets for our 2 cars combined were about $120.

So it's possible to only change the glass lense? Wow, I'll have to look into that, any idea how difficult it is to change?

Re: Broken headlight lense - replacement options? (Dede)

I had the same problem about a month ago, cracked passenger side headlight. I looked around for the glass only... and from what I've heard it's not that easy to replace just the glass. Anyways, here is where I was looking to buy the glass only: http://www.erievovo.com
Since I had only owned the car about two months, I finally gave my dealer a call (A Volvo dealer, used car dept.) and explained to him what happened, I guess he felt sorry for me because he gave me the whole assembly (which is the only way Volvo sells the part, not just glass) at COST! Which is almost half of what I would have had to pay. It's worth a shot if you recently bought the car.
Here are a few more places to check just in case:
http://www.partsforvolvosonline.com/
http://stores.ebay.com/VOLVO-LAMPS
http://stores.ebay.com/AutoLampsPlus
Good Luck.

Deductible is $500. Still, even if my dedutible was $250, I wouldn't want to file a claim for it, I'd end up paying for the lense over and over in the coming years...

Re: (Rick_K)

I will likely go with a complete new assembly from our friends at Boston Volvo, the few yards that do have the headlights are asking for ridiculously high prices! IMHO of course.

Re: (Dede)

Hi guys... small update. Received the headlight assembly in late June from Boston Volvo. Very efficient - highly recommended, thanks John.
I then went away for 2 weeks on holiday, and it's now time to try to install this baby
Now for the hard part... there are 6 bolts that need to be removed, only 3 a relatively easy to access! The 3 red circles are easy. The 3 yellow circles represent the location of the 3 other bolts.

I can pull the bumper cover far enough that the headlight wiper stop me from pulling it further. But even if I could pull it further I still wouldn't be able to get to the 2 innermost bolts without completely pulling the bumper cover.
Can anyone with access to VADIS (is that the system?) confirm that this is the proper procedure to removing and installing headlights ?? How do I remove the little wipers?

Re: (volvos60t5x)

This is an 2002, won't fit. And I'm replacing it because the car is going back at the end-of-lease, so it needs to be in good condition.
That said, any idea on how to reach the last 3 bolts?
