Went to take out a second mortgage on the house so I fill the gas tank at the local gas station. Pushed the open gas "hatch" button. Pulled the hatch door with minimal force and it broke off. The door was hanging from the cord that connects it to the gas cap.
It looks like it is a clip based system...I was able to pop it back in but this is a temporary fix. Every time I open it to fill up I am going to have the same problem. Has anyone else encountered this?
Car is still under warranty so I can get it fixed but do not feel like being inconvienced at this time by having the car take a lengthy stay with the dealership.

Re: Broken Gas tank hatch (esquiR)

They should have the hinge in stock and it's a 5-minute fix. If they're morons and want to keep the car all day, you can install it yourself with a scratch-awl or small drift.
I had to park in a crappy part of town and someone tried to pry open my door to siphon some gas. I didn't notice until I went to fill up and the hatch just fell off as you described. It cost me $30 for the dealer to replace the plastic hinge clip (and about 10 minutes).

Re: (ezwilling)

The hinge is covered under warranty. You should not have been charge anything....unless of course you're over 50,000 miles.

Who in the world is stupid enough to try and siphon gas out of an OBD-II car? You'd be better off jamming a hole in the fuel filter and doing it from there...
