Hi Everyone
I'm still waiting on my new black T5...currently it's probably on a boat, lonely, waiting for a driver. Anyway, I live in New York, just moved here, and I was wondering if front license plates are required by law. I think it really ruins the lines of the car...I'm trying to avoid putting them on. Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks

You need to check with your New York State Department of Motor Vehicles, or whatever it may be titled there. As far as I know, this varies by state. In California front plates are required, though that doesn't stop some people from leaving them off. I agree with you: they really mess up the front of a car.

i used to live in NY and front license plates are definitely required. it does look better without them, but not worth the price of getting pulled over for. especially by NY state troopers, who WILL give you a ticket.

Welcome to Swedespeed! It sounds like you will be getting a nice car, and waiting is the hardest part.

Like the others have said above, you will need to get a front license plate in New York. I don't like the way they look either, but the law is the law.

I have heard of some people getting Euro-Style front plates with their actual state numbers on them, and somehow that is legal. I am not sure if that will work with the NYPD though.

Hello:

Congrats on your new car.

I live in Wyoming and we too, have a law that requires front license plates.

My last three cars I never put it on. I simply leave the license plate in the trunk and, if I ever did get stopped, will tell them that I will install it. The most you would get is a 45 day "fix-it" ticket for which you just have to prove that you took care of the problem thus, not incurring any penalties.

It definitely ruins the lines of the car, that is why I told my dealer not to install any front plate holders.
