I'm getting ready to do the brakes on my car as the pad material is about as thick as the metal backing. I can't decide on which pads I should get and should I get rotors as well. Input is needed... (If you select Other, please spcifiy with part number.)
I have the 320mm brakes (front), and I plan to do a write-up for both front and rear pad replacement.

@BtownVolvo: I'm not ready to sped $1500 on a big brake kit...
@S40Racer: I'm looking for something probably more ceramic or composite than semi-metalic for brakes.

Re: (S40DaB)

Ceramics, while they do produce more dust, tend to be better with stopping power and less fading of the brakes.

Ok seriously though. Get OEM Mazdaspeed3 Pads. Through my vigorous searching of their forums I have found out that we have the exact same 320mm caliper and they tested ALL brands of pads, yes even OEM volvo. Based on this, he suggested OEM Mazdaspeed3 pads.
Just FYI

Re: (failurbydesign)

Posi quiet makes ceramic if you're interested. I went with the semi-metalic because I've used them before and liked the performance... Here is the link for the ceramic though...
http://www.autoanything.com/br....aspx

The OEM brakes are
1.) Cheaper by about $40 total for all 4 wheels
2.) Perfectly suitable for my needs.
Thanks for all the replies, I'll post up a how-to once I finish the brakes.

Re: (BtownVolvo)

@BTownVolvo
The cheapest I could find on the internet for those was $181 for the front set. I would prefer to match the brakes all around and don't want to mess with something that might not fit. Especially when it comes to brakes...

Re: (BtownVolvo)

1500 is a pretty fair price for a front BBK from brembo... Probably look into that for myself when my pads are due. The misses allows me to splurge on safety items lol

Performance Semi-metallic brakes are much better then ceramic. They stop harder and last longer, the problem with performance semi-metallic is that they are loud and squeak alot. So the quiet semi-metallic use more organic material to be quieter.
The only thing ceramic has going for it is that it doesnt leave dust on the wheels (at least not that you can see)

Quote, originally posted by BTownVolvo »

Ok seriously though. If the guy from the dealership isn't able to get me the brake pads or forgets to call me back next week, I'll be calling the Mazda dealer and getting those brakes.
