Hi

I did OSD and have a lovely 2019 XC40. I have had serious brake/rotor issues. After a year of full replacement I have a bad vibrate again. I suspect rear. I did approach Corporate for the last repair in 2020 and was awarded 400.00 USD for future service. Today, I asked the dealer if I can have the 400 towards parts so my partner can install. No reply yet. I am so fed up. HELP

11/22/19- 6,731mi- rear rotors replaced
12/16/19- 8,310 mi- front rotors replaced
12/4/20- 32,792 mi- front rotors replaced
8/3/21 - 45,792mi- front and rear pads and rotors replaced- under warranty but I had to pay 1500.00

I love my car and want to do OSD again in June. Are the XC40s still having issues or did Volvo sort this out?

I do not use cruise control and have driven cars since 1977 and never had such issues with an assortment of cars.

On 08/03 did you have factory pads and rotors installed? If so, you’re going to have the same issues. Change the pads to quality ceramics, even with OEM rotors. You’ll see better results. Some here recommend different rotors too. But pads are the first culprit. I’ve had cars exceed 100k miles with factory rotors and pads with identical driving habits. Volvo’s in a different category when it comes to brake life.

Both of our XC90’s had significant pulsating within 10k miles. The 2017’s have been replaced multiple times, once under warranty. The most recent OEM pads and rotors lasted about 30k miles on the 2017. The factory pads on my 2021 were wearing very well at about 19.5k miles. Easily had another 20k miles left. But the pulsating was getting out of control.

I had OEM rotors with Brembo ceramic pads installed on the 2017 and the 2021. No pulsating and wear seems very good after 10k+ miles for both.

If there is a chance that you might take your XC40 to the dealer for any other service that you might use the $400 credit on then I would I would first ask the dealer how much they will charge you for the parts. There are many Volvo dealers that now sell discounted parts online. Chances are you can save $150 just on one set of pads and rotors. I just purchased a set of genuine Volvo front rotors and pads from a Volvo dealer online for my XC60 for only $350. The dealer would have charged over $500 for the same parts.

Yep, I did the same. The OEM rotors were substantially cheaper

I went with Zimmermann rotors and Akebono pads from ACP 10k miles ago on my XC90. No problems so far.

So, our 2020 has about 22K miles and we "plan" to buy out the lease next summer(REALLY like this vehicle!!). Haven't had any brake issues so far and hope the problem was solved before our Snowball was produced.
