Brake Special My....

So my brakes need to be changed and I figured I would look around and comparison shop for the best price, as anyone should. I call one of the local Stealerships in the NOVA area (Fair **cough** fax) and I get quoted a "Special Deal" pricing this week only of $175/ea a set for pads only.
I also get a quote for labor (not that I would because I can do it myself for free and I get to drink on the job) of said pads for $270-280.
Cheers to you my good Stealership, you shall not be having any of my hard earned $$ anytime soon.

For Sh1ts and grins I went to Don Buyer Dulles for that and they quoted me an even more expensive quote.

I about due, did you manage to find a good set of pads for cheap?
John at BVV should have a good price on it.

IPD has them in stock for the R, front and rear for $199.05. I'm going to order from them for that price and do the install myself.
Re: Brake Special My.... (MightyQ)

Great, thanks!
Re: Brake Special My.... (JDuB)

the dealers are such a rip off!

I went to get an alignment priced out - they wanted 125$, but said they had a coupon available to bring it to 95$.

I called another local dealer and got the alignment done for 60$.

sorry for the derailment!
Re: Brake Special My.... (MightyQ)

Both of the stealerships in St. Louis pulled the same stunt with me. I guess they figure since you have an R, they can charge you twice as much. So, I went to http://www.tascavolvoparts.com, bought the pads, took them down to my local independent who charged me $80 labor to put them in and saved a big wad of change.
Im still going to recommend the Hawk HPS we installed a few weeks ago... they are awesome, i can come and assist when you do it, and i will even bring beer this time

Re: Re: (rotorwash)

I like the hawk ceramic. They stop as well as oem, but I don't notice any dust worth mentioning. I get to bleed my brakes this summer, and luckily the SS lines are en route.

Great site. Assuming these are the same OEM part, you can get front and rears for the same price that IPD sells just the fronts...

Trust me, if you exceed the MOT of those Hawks (applies to the HPS and HP+ as well) you will have pretty much NO brakes. In this regard, the OEMs are much better as they fall off much more gradually. REFERENCE. Of course if you drive like a grandma, don't worry.

You still wasted $80
If you can take a wheel off and use a hammer, you can do them yourself in 30 minutes.

Yep they're OEM. Tasca folks are very nice to deal with and usually your order arrives in just a few days. I find their prices to be the best anywhere, so it's a no-brainer for me.

Well, I've had them in for a year, and I don't track, so it shouldn't be an issue.

On a related note, what brake fluid should I use once my SS brake lines come in? Will any brand of DOT3 be fine? Recommendations? Already considering the MityVac.

Hard to tell % wise but definitely under 25% if not lower.

If you really want to save some money, price out some Acura TL pads with Brembos. I've see pads on clearance recently for $15 at some online discounter. And yes they were the Brembo style pads.
Here is one on a quick search for $58 http://www.car-stuff.com/carpa....html
Granted, I would only buy Volvo pads for my vehicle but others may want to save a buck or hundred.
