Just joined. Not sure why it has taken so long. I have a 2004 V70R and need replace my brake pads. For 140K miles, I used to just take it to the dealership and let them do whatever they liked. That being said, I'm now buying my own parts and having them install. Can anyone recommend good brake pads? I'm looking at IPD and there are three sets. Thanks

My honest opinion would be to buy OEM pads. Everything maybe a gamble. My new pads only work awesome when they are heated well. Factory ones stopped on a dime cold/warm/hot...

Aw man, you'll be blown back by how easy the pads are to replace on these cars. Maybe even hit yourself for paying the dealership to do it for you once you realize how easy it is. lol Check out this video:

We don't even have the cotter pins to pull out, you just tap out the holding pins.

Welcome to the forum!

One thing this video does not mention is the use of anti-squeak on the pad and a light coat of high temperature lithium grease on the slider pins. Pad as installed will squeak like crazy.

Stick with OEM pads unless:
1) You're doing lots of track days, then get Ferodo DS2500 or another proper race pad (NOT HAWK HPS or HP+)
2) You want to sacrifice normal braking performance just to get a little less brake dust on your wheels. In which case find some ceramic pads but then don't complain when they work like crap. Better still, just Plastidip your wheels black and stick with OEM pads, nobody will see the dust that way! :D

Other than OEM pads. Didnt someone do a comparison with other cars as to what was compatible with our brakes? Something like the CTSV was compatible with our cars?

i love the OE pads, good enough for light track sessions and they bite like a sumbich, if you are worried about dust, get a maid.

As for the pads, everyone has their preference. I personally like Hawk HPS pads. FYI, the initial bite is not as hard as the stock pad, but the brake feel is very linear. It will not fade what so ever when pressed hard.

Do not ever use race pads for street use. They will kill you.

I agree, "race" pads are designed to work great when hot but don't do crap when cold. You could be on the freeway for an hour with out touching the brakes with cruise on and need them, and they won't work.

There are lots of different street pads our there for our setup.

Green stuff... Drt sport rotors ... Viva SS lines... Motul 5.1 fluid. I was on stock rotors and I don't know what pads b4 this. Haven't gotten my car back yet but I'm thinking it will stop quite well. Viva takes way too long to ship stuff IMO and never returned my call about a message I left about a product I already had installed and about adding another order to my existing b4 the other shipped. IPD for now on.

Is there any other reason besides aesthetics to. Switch to slotted, or cross drilled rotors for everyday spirited street driving?

They are 10 dollars more, and I just don't see the need... But they are gosh darn cool looking

I'm actually due for brakes too....I'm going with a company called Rotor Pros
I'm getting 4 slotted and dimpled (not drilled) rotors plus pads for 340

That's an incredible deal if its not to good to be true... I wish I had more than a week left before my brakes are in trouble. Let us know how they turn out.

Does anyone else have experience with these?

I have PosiQuiet pads. They were cheap but I wish I spent the extra money and got OEM's.

I'm actually in the same boat I have less than 1000 miles of life left
However my friends recommended rotor pros they use them on their 03 cobra terminators
One of them beat the living **** out of his brakes and they were perfect for 17k

I'm really looking forward to them.... Shoot them a email or call them they don't have volvo listed on their website but they said they would have no problem making them to volvo oem specs for the brembo system

need to do my rears. anyone know if stop tech street performance are OEM comparable?

I will not use ceramic. I can't tell what compound stop tech uses. If I don't see dust, then I ain't buying. After owning volvos for eons, filthy wheels make me comfy.

I just went ahead and ordered OEM from FCPeuro. Kinda spendy but what the hell they're easy to change and I don't have to pay anyone.
