last year when I parked XC90 ( outdoors) at marina for three weeks of vacation I returned to find all 4 rotors rusted and pitted.
Dealer had to change all four rotors and pads to eliminate vibration when stopping. Noticable $$
Not sure how to avoid a repeat when we are off again this summer.
Dealer says to get someone to drive it at least once a week; a bit tough given where we leave it and that most are strangers there.
Never had this with any other vehicle.
Any suggestions.........any storage spray??
Fred

Don't park it near a marina - salt water = bad

Re: brake corrosion (avolvofan)

We experienced a similar problem, but it was from road salt this past winter. We don't drive our XC90 every day (13 months old and still less than 10k miles) and the rust was quite surprising. I've never seen another vehicles rotors rust that way. I also compared our Volvo's rotors to our neighbors' BMWs. We had about the same periodicity in driving. Theirs showed a little surface rust, but it was nothing compared to the XCs. Our dealer ended up R&Ring our rear rotors.
Wonder if Volvo uses some funky grade of steel for the rotors that enhances breaking but is more prone to rust?

Re: brake corrosion (fredi)

It's not that simple.
Marina is on fresh water so no salt but yes , humidity at night.
Need to use car to get there ( way out of Montreal) and there is no other place ( like indoor) to park.Never, ever had this problem with any other carover all the years. Some surface rust on rotor is normal put not this extent of damage.
It is the material choice according to the dealer.
They receive cars with special protective covers ( no he won't sell me some and I'd need to remove wheels to install) and still find problems on new 90's.
The used cars in their lot need to be driven regularly or they encounter the same problem in their parking lot. ( far, far away from any water).
Seems the grade of steel combined with the pad material makes for a high corrosion interface.
Surprised Volvo would engineer this way

You could spray some WD-40 on the rotors after you parked your XC90. Make sure you coat both sides, and when you come back clean it off with brake cleaner.
