Okay I'm really wanting a body kit however I noticed that for my car the body kit would cost me about $2000 plus paint. For the S40 the kit is only $600 bucks.
Why the price difference?
P.S. I'm talking about the OEM Volvo branded bodykit.

Re: Body Kits: Why the price difference between S60R and S40?? (slowrey)

First, I assume you're talking about the Evolve body kit.
And second, the complete kit (all components, including grills) for the R is $2830 MSRP. For the S40, the complete kit is $2382, for a difference of about 450 bucks.
So . . . not sure where you're getting that 600 figure from.

Re: Body Kits: Why the price difference between S60R and S40?? (R Salesman)

Actually I'm talking about the factory body kit. I just saw the S40 bodykit for $600 bucks!
S40 Body Kit - 8698085
$607.29
Add To Cart
Volvo's body kit consists of front and rear lower spoilers (under the bumpers) and side skirts (rocker panels) designed specifically for the 2004.5 (and newer) S40 sedan - and to enhance the lines of the car. These components replace existing components on the S40 and is installed in existing holes. This Body Kit cannot be used in combination with Volvo's Mud Flaps for the S40.
Note: components of this kit are delivered to you in primer. You'll have to get them painted the same color as your S40.
Volvo's suggested list price is: $714.46
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot ship this Body Kit outside of the continental US 48 states.

http://www.bostonvolvo.com/cart.htm

Okay quick note. I just called John at Boston Volvo and if I had a T5 I could get the whole damn body kit for a bit over $600 bucks. However since I have an R I would have to buy the pieces not as a kit but individually.
My question now is..... Is the R vs. T5 rear bumpers on the body kit and side dirt deflectors different? They show different part numbers in Vadis but did they really make two different kits for the S60?
I thought the only thing that changed between a T5 body kit and a R bodykit was the front spoiler(s).

Re: (slowrey)

that would be great and then order the left and right spoiler for $120 each from VIVA.. But i think the rear is not the same.

Re: (slowrey)

I think only the side skirts and deck lid spoiler are the same.
We once had a T5 with the body kit, and I compared it to the body kit on my R and they are definitely different: front bumper covers are different, as is the rear bumper cover.
For whatever reason, Volvo views the body kit for the S60 as an "accessory," thus you can order it as a kit to go on any non-R S60.
The R's body kit, however, is viewed as something that is only factory-installed. Hence, the "kit" can only be ordered as individual replacement parts.
Given the economies of scale (i.e. how few R's there are compared to all the other S60's), and that the R body kit is R-specific, it is easy to see how it is more expensive.

Re: (R Salesman)

Well I'm having a heck of a time finding a place that's 100% that are ordering the right parts and that's reasonable!

I hated the fact that on Electric Silver it does not come from the factory pre-painted like say - Titanium.
So - mine was 1995 for the pieces, then 1,000 for paint and install.
Sucks when from the factory it's 1995.00 right on the sticker.
Oh well...it's hot.

No pieces on the S40 kit are the same as the S60 kit.
Plus, since the S60 is 5" longer than the S40, and wider the 40 kit just won't fit.
We do quite a few S40's w/ the kit, it is subtler than the R kit, and more user friendly since the front spoiler isn't as low.

This is my wife's car with the factory kit on it. I think it was around $2000 installed.
S60 2.5T AWD

My best suggestion is to find a body shop that will get you the kit at cost and just charge you the labor of painting and putting it on, rather than going thru a dealer. When I had to have my wife's front lip replaced, the body shop that did it (and also does the dealer's work) only charged me for the bumper what he buys it for.
