According to the Volvo website- V90:

And the "new" V60:

The "new" V60 is taller, narrower, and basically the same legroom (in the rear). I find them identical, maybe with a sliver more shoulder width, but both are more than wide enough for me.

It's fine if it works for you, but the practical space in the V90 is about 5 inches wider in the V90 than in the V60. I was there with a tape measure and compared. V60 was pretty hopeless for 3 car seats across, I have 3 in my V90. Part of it is the interference of the leather covered edge piece outside of the seats, it is harder and more intrusive on the V60. The numbers do not tell the whole story.

Yeah - 3 car seats may be a different story. Never had that problem. But if you have three kids of that same age bracket I'd say the V90 is required anyhow in order to fit all the associated "stuff" that has to fit in the trunk. The V60 trunk is much smaller/shorter than the V90.
Also - with that many car seats I'd definitely get the built-in booster seats. Much better than the aftermarket seats and before you know it they are all booster seat size!

Ooh! That's a really good call. Would definitely save some space. Unfortunately from what I've seen, actually FINDING one with the booster option isn't easy, and being that V90s (in non-CC form) are going to be used only. Still, I'll make that a heavier consideration next time I'm in the market, even if it is tougher to find.

This is how I felt as well. (also 3 kids but 2 boosters in the back)

Audi A6 Allroad is a beautiful car, too, and one that I forget about!! If money was no object, I would have one of those, a standard V60 or V90 and a Boxster / Miata or something.

owns 2012 Volvo XC70 T6 Platinum
One reason I am still hanging on to the 2007 530xi: 70k: way too much fun to drive
V90 is my suggestion
The rumors for 5 wagon- I am out of air holding my breath
RS6 avant - now that’s fun to drive !

I always liked the C5 gen. It was beautifully built. The Porsche and Miata would be a great work horse almost 2 cars in 1.

I currently drive a 2007 328ix wagon. But my kids are out growing my car so I'm starting to research a replacement. Looking at cpo MB E400/450 or Volvo V60/90.. Thoughts?
You'll be happier with XC90. They're very roomy, have 3rd row seating (2nd and 3rd fold down for hauling) AWD and reliable. I have the inline 6 3.2. I gave my son my XC70 T5 when I traded up.

If they needed something with that much more space, wouldn't they just step up to a small wheelbase Sprinter van though?

too trucky....I had two in my business. The Metris was an option as well but just too truck like

If you're looking to buy new, I'd be very wary of Volvo's "mild hybrid" drivetrain and of Volvo's Google OS, both of which are horribly designed. I would only buy the new "Extended Range" PHEV drivetrain in a Volvo wagon. Otherwise I'd look at another brand. Volvo instrument panels and computer screens today are designed for soccer moms, not for people serious about driving; there's a lot lacking in both (full-time odometer and tachometer in the PHEVs; tire pressure for each wheel in psi; ability to change views; etc.), and you'll find the Volvo design frustrating in that you have to go into sub-menus on the touchscreen to do simple climate and audio and drive-mode changes.

I find the "new" V60 to be much smaller in rear legroom and space compared to the V90.
not sure if this is the same in either the v60 or v90 but in the s60 there is a middle hump in footwell of the rear seat with the t8. it makes it much harder to seat 3 people. if you consistently need 3 people in the rear then please keep that in mind. i love the t8 but would not recommend for 3 rear passengers unless v60 and v90 have this addressed.
