Re: BMW has another 3 series R killer... (R_Rated)

A better more refined and balanced car? Sure. A R killer - hardly. I've seen the pricing on the 335 - you can't duplicate BMW steering feel with any aftermarket mods but in most every other respect a R plus mods for the price will keep a 335 in your rear view (or course this takes into account the pile of discounts that come with the R.)
If the real world street price of the base R and base 335 were the same well I'm afraid the 335 would be the better choice in most respects in my opinion.

The 335 will come in sedan form and it will have AWD and a 6spd manual. Looks like an apple to me.

Altho those are really excellent performance numbers (I really expect no less from BMW), the 3 series are still just plain old BORING to me. Not unique at all nor is the interior all that "yay".
I dont see myself owning a BMW in the future but for performance they are ..... style they are
EDIT: Well I just checked out the website and the exterior of the new 3 series coupe due in September is pretty darn good lookin. The aftermarket for this car is going to be out of this world. The tunning potential on a turbo car? simply astounding! I bet I could take this car and tune it and walk the E46 M3 all day long.
An example of TT tuning.... B5 S4 starts with 240hp range; add 4,000K gets you injectors, turbos, intake, tune, exhaust. results = 450awhp and for another 1K in goodies 525awhp... folks a bi-turbo car is stupid easy to tune with TONS of potential.
Another example is the Supra. Stock for stock the R can easily outrun it. (for this conversation the years made, technology etc, etc, etc. just for argument sake it is irrelivant) I have one of the more heavily modded R's as does boosted but neither one of our car can remotely begin to compete with a mildly modded Supra much less a heavily modded one.

Re: BMW has another 3 series R killer... (R_Rated)

Yes, I know it has a leg up on the R, but this is a newer model that has not even hit the ground yet. Hopefully, Volvo steps up to the task with the next generation S60. This no shock at all. The first Rs hit the ground in 2003. BMW has had plenty of time to develope something to top it.
Also, aren't the twin turbos some sort of sequential setup like the RX7? If so, I'm sure they with be able to get a nice ECU boost, but it won't be as easy as just slapping on a bigger turbo. Plus, they have not worked with turbos for a while, this car could have some major issues.

remeber too that I am not comparing the R to the new M.

Quote, originally posted by I Roll »

Yes, I know it has a leg up on the R, but this is a newer model that has not even hit the ground yet. Took 'em four years after the R came out and, at least around here, there are too many look-alike 3-Series BMW's running around the streets.
- Polartek

Re: BMW has another 3 series R killer... (R_Rated)

I hear ya, but remember when the S60T5 came out you had the 330 putting out something like 230hp and the T5 had 247. The since then BMW has come out with the E90 3 series, and Volvo hasn't changed anything. So shame on Volvo for not updating the platform, but I'm not going to think less of my R just because BWM has just as much hp in a new model. I pretty much expected it.
Just as a C5 Z06 owner should not be ashamed that a base C6 can run with it. That is just the trend these days.
