For the last month or so my iPhone 7 no longer stays reliably connected to my C70. I've disconnected ("forget the device" on both iPhone and car) and re-paired several times but it would not fix it. I finally had enough time to deal with it today and I might have resolved it with a hard reset on the iPhone (volume down and power buttons). I'm hopeful that will do the trick as I suspect the problem is the phone and not the car. My wife's iPhone 6S stays connected just fine.

In trying to figure this out, I noted that my C70's bluetooth software version is 5.08_R. Does anyone know if this is the latest version? Can I ask my fellow C70ers if you also have this bluetooth software version? Go to the Bluetooth menu and select Car Bluetooth Info:

You can have your dealer download a BPM upgrade to bring it to the latest version.

But before that, I would try a free Service 2.0 upgrade, and hopefully the BPM software is included in that...

Thanks rj240! Looks like my BT software version is way behind... and the 'free' software updates that my dealer advertised as part of Safe and Secure service visits never happened.
Let me see if the hard reset worked.

2012 should be the Bluetooth with AD2P support. That's a different hardware and therefore the SW version not comparable.

I was going to check mine but couldn’t find that screen

My iPhone 7 Plus still works with it for both calls and google maps voice prompts, but it seems the Bluetooth display doesn’t pop on the BLP-990 screen like the other OEM screens do :\

Ah, right. Thanks for the reminder. Any 2011 or earlier owners who can check their bluetooth version for me?

To get to the menu, press the Phone button, then press the Menu button. Select 1. Phone Menu; then 3. Bluetooth...; then 4. Car Bluetooth Info

(and it has also been to a few "Service 2.0" appointments)

On my 2011 S40 the bluetooth version is: 5.08_R
On my 2011 C70 the bluetooth version is: 5.07_R
A hard reset on the iphone should work.
My son-in-law has an iPhone x on Tuesday (23) I can check it with his iPhone x- if need be.
keep the forum informed.

Thanks all for the C70 BT version info. Looks like there might not be a later BT software version available for the 2011 and earlier cars. I'd like to be able to confirm this, but I still suspect the problem is with the iPhone. (BTW, it's only a year old and never had any other problems or damage. Interestingly, it stays connected to my bluetooth 'landline' handsets at home; the only issue is with the car.)

The hard reset (volume down and power buttons) only worked for a day. This morning, the iPhone kept being disconnected from the car, even after I connected it again. I will try a Device Firmware Update (DFU) on the phone later today, and might have to restore the whole phone. I'll post again with any news.

Well there are issues with the iphone's bluetooth. Sometimes I need to toggle off and on the bluetooth settings either for my car, hearing aids, bose spkr, and garmin activity watch. But after toggling on and off everything seems to work.
Back up the iphone to the cloud or itunes ( you prob. know this already). There is a cache in the iphone and some battery apps can delete it. But if it's not at all connecting with the car or disconnecting frequently- yes maybe a factory reset on the iphone then restore from itunes. This maybe a problem with OS 11 - I just don't know. Did you ever run the iphone 7 with OS10?
I haven't gone to OS 11 yet with any of my iPhones.

I think you're right to wait on iOS 11. I can't remember exactly when I upgraded to 11 but I'm pretty sure it was around the same time I starting having this BT connectivity issue. I got the 7 in late 2016 (replaced a trusty 5S) and it's been working fine with no connectivity issues.
I did a DFU reset on the iPhone yesterday and reinstalled the iOS (this is the "Update" option, not "Restore"; I did not do a full restore as I was worried it would take too long). See https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201263
So far it's staying connected but time will tell; I will provide an update later.

Update - iPhone is disconnecting from car again. I will try a full restore (DFU) but am feeling frustrated.

I feel your pain- I know that frustration.
You need to eliminate the variables- one by one.
When does it disconnect? Shutting the car off? Car on but out of range of phone? Next day or immediately? If it is immediately I suspect the phone. Did you buy applecare for it? Is it still under warranty? If it disconnects immediately- can you borrow a friend's iphone to try it out for at least 15min. I really doubt it is the bluetooth software of the car-It does connect then disconnects. When you pair it again after it loses connection does it pair right away or are there errors and it can't communicate with the phone? Is there a difference with pairing from phone than pairing from car? I usually have to pair mine from the phone.
Is their a friend's car that you can pair the phone with- then come back to that same car the next day? You can always delete that phone on he/she's car. Which brings me to my next question: how many phones are paired with your C-70?
Do the DFU- and if that doesn't work- then back the phone up and restore to factory defaults. Before you restore it with your information pair it and if that works and doesn't disconnect then you may have a conflict with one of your apps or even another bluetooth device you have paired it with.
Good luck.

Reporting back, hopefully all resolved. I exhausted all I could do to my iPhone - reset Network Settings, DFU reset, and finally a full erase and restore of the phone - and nothing worked. I then tried driving around with only my wife's iPhone 6 connected and sure enough it too was getting disconnected. So, feeling confident that the problem was in the car, I bit the bullet and went to my dealer. They were unable to duplicate the issue initially, but finally found that there was a Bluetooth module software upgrade (a "BPM upgrade" as referenced by rj240 above) and installed it.

So far everything seems OK. The service rep told me that for some reason Volvo does not include this 'BPM upgrade' in the usual service software updates - it has to be looked up in VIDA and installed separately. As shown below, the latest version is 05.14_R (I previously had 05.08_R). I was only charged for an hour of labor, which was fair, but maybe I should have spent that money on a VIDA setup instead... can I get the BPM upgrade that way? (I won't start my usual rant over customers not being able to access software updates for the cars, in contrast to just about every other product. grrrr...)

Glad to hear that it should be resolved...

Unfortunately software updates/upgrades/downloads require an actual VIDA subscription, in addition to the charge per software download. You would have had to go to a dealership or specialist anyways. It's not really any cheaper to get a subscription just to do it on your own.

The next time, if you ask them directly just to do the upgrade if there is one available, it should cost you less. For something like that I would have charged the price of the download plus about 0.3hr labour. The 1 hr labour they charged you must have included the diagnostic time to try to replicate the problem before looking for and performing the software upgrade...

With a legit subscription to the new on-line VIDA you can opt for software downloads at a price, and you have to pay for each module as well... only uncertainty is whether it will work a DICE box of dubious origin

Well that is just great. Now I know of the update. My S40 is still under warranty I'll have them do it.. So maybe it is iOS11? You had a 7 and your wife has a 6.-Must be the iOS. Thanks for getting back.
My dealer charges $170 an hour- ouch- I dunno what I'll do with my C70. I don't need no stinking iOS11!-

i'm an apple stock holder and i'm annoyed by the recent iOS updates as well. read they're holding off on iOS12 to work out all the bugs in iOS11...i've lost the ability to use my iPhone as a hotspot. super annoying when everything worked just fine before the update
