I was in the middle of a long road trip the other afternoon when my BLIS system went out in the middle of a prolonged and heavy downpour. I keep receiving messages that it needed service and had stopped working. In the morning after everything dried out, the system was back up and running. Has anyone ever had a similar experience? It was quite an unfortunate time to have the system malfunction and I'm hoping it does not happen again but am curious if anyone has any insight into the issue.

That is completely normal. It even states in the owners manual about heavy rain or snow may have an effect on safety systems. They cannot penetrate the precipitation to "see" beyond it. Its letting you know so you are aware.
