I'm not sure what we have is just a shell or a functional button. Mine do not depress (maybe just some lock inside). I have tried asking the dealer if they have a functional switch for that, but they said it was going to cost alot (they quoted me the DSTC switch), which is way too much for a switch, and advised me to get a non-oem switch. Was looking for switches for my Car PC, have since gave up on that project.
It's a farce is what we have. Not only is it not an actual blank that can be easily modified to work, the space is taken up by god knows what. It might be related to the DSTC I'm not sure. You can grab that whole trim piece and pull it out for a look see if you like. It was quite clear that if I wanted to make it a functional button, I'd have to purchase it from Volvo.
There are two buttons, and they're not identical. The one on the right is a little smaller, and has a more rounded lower curve.
The DSTC function is only there on earlier years, and only on DSTC-equipped cars. AWD cars without DSTC have a blank, and FWD cars get an STC switch. Later years are all blank, since the DSTC function was moved to the stalk.
The C70 puts the convertible top function on the right. Park sensors, I'm not sure but it makes sense there too. Most other Volvos have a button for those.
Someone here made a clever use of the right-side blank, they drilled it out and put in a stereo jack for an iPod input. There was a picture somewhere.
If i were ever to get an FM modulator installed I would def ask them to put the Stereo jack there as well
When I installed my FM modulator myself, there was a switch to switch on and off the FM modulator, I was thinking of putting that switch there too, I had the aux in wires running from behind the console, so no problems there actually.
