I know this should be in the detailing forum, but since it's an R........
I've never seen this sort of reflectivity from my black R before. Check out this image of my kayak reflected in my R's hood -

and just in case you didn't believe me -

And another -

I used five coats of Zaino Z5 with the ZFX accelerator - I haven't even put the Z2 pro on yet!

LOL...I was asking myself why you were taking pictures of your garage when the thread popped up. That's a great shine!

Excellent! How long did it take? Do you do any light polishing before the Zaino, or do you keep your car swirl free to begin with?

Re: Black Sapphire R after 5 coats of Zaino (I Roll)

It took a good four hours or so. When I picked up the car from the dealer new it had pretty nasty swirl marks - they offered to "fix" it, by having the same kid go at it with the same non random orbital buffer - I said I'd deal with it myself.
I used one coat of Zaino Z-PC paint swirl remover, then 5 coats of the Z-5. I'll probably put a coat or two of Z2 pro today while I'm still in the mood. I'm completely hooked on this Zaino stuff, I put three coats of Z2 on my MINI (which only took about 40 minutes as there is far less paint than the V) and it looked amazing, so I thought I'd try it with the R - Zaino is even more stunning on black than on my Dark Silver MINI.

Grendel: Very nice work! Was it manual elbow grease or did you use a machine (porter-cable random orbital perphaps?).
I've seen mirror-like pictures like yours in the forums at Autotopia and I wouldn't have believed it until you posted your amazing pictures.
FYI, this is a link to the Autotopia site http://www.guidetodetailing.co...Id=47
Again, nice work mate
LTA

Re: Black Sapphire R after 5 coats of Zaino (LTA)

Thanks LTA!
I used very little elbow grease. I have the poor mans Porter Cable - the Ryobi 10" random orbital. It's a whopping $25 bucks at the Home Depot. I got a few extra buffing pads for another $10. After using the r. orbital I went over it again for each coat with fieldcrest cotton towels - which was very easy after the buffer did most of the work.
Lots of people swear by the Porter Cable, but I didn't see the point to the extra $100 - the Ryobi works fine for me.

Re: Black Sapphire R after 5 coats of Zaino (Grendel)

I can't recall, is Zaino one of the waxes that doesn't leave any white residue on the trim?
I used McGuire's NXT the last time (very nice product, but will leave behind the white stuff), and after spending the time to tape off all the trim, one coat was all I was doing. I'd be very interested in a wax that didn't require either protecting the trim or removing the inevitable spots of white later, which is a pain.
Oh, and beautiful job on the car

Re: Black Sapphire R after 5 coats of Zaino (Vipergtsz3)

Jerome -
Just bring her on over. A few coats of Zaino and a few beers, and we'll finally have a GTG!
I figured this was probably the last week before it starts to get really humid down here - the next time I'll have to apply Zaino will be October.
And not leaving the white residue is another very cool part of the Zaino benefit - no white wax all over everything. It can be used on chrome, black trim, even glass. I avoided the black trim probably out of habit - many people use this stuff on their windows too, something I didn't do.
I used the McGuires tech wax on the R the last time - it had a nice shine - nowhere near as deep as this, and it only seemed to last about a month. Zaino is even easier to apply as you don't have to be anal about getting near the trim, and it lasts 6 months.
