Do our cars have a "black box", if so where is it located and what does it record? Recently there was a street crash that left 1 dead and 3 airmen critically injured, while the story is an unfortunate reminder of the dangers of speeding - i could not help but take notice of the interviewed officers mention that they would inspect the cars black box to see what acceleration and braking took place. I never heard about this but i after 2013 they become standard on most cars? I wonder if its constantly monitoring or just saves info before impact. My conspiracy-enthralled mind cant help but think driving habits are being monitored and recorded for reasons...

There isn't a dedicated "black box" per se, but information is recorded in various control modules and can be retrieved after a crash.
