this is driving me nuts. How do I lube my heater fan, as it appears at low speed (1 or 2) it sounds like I have a bird or cricket chirping away down there? Is it a massive removal of interior, or did Volvo make this easy with a grease nipple on the passenger side?

I had this problem years ago when I owned a '93 850. If I remember correctly, the blower fan has sealed bearings, so no way to lube. Will probably require a new fan motor eventually. You may want to consider adding a pollen/dust filter for the cabin. Seems to help make the bearings last longer by keeping some of the gunk out. You can get the kit from most of the online Volvo parts places.

Good luck.

My 240 does it too sometimes, and worse on corners, hard braking/acceleration, etc. Fan is on its way out, and the resister is going too. Only have 3rd and 4th speeds. It's too bad that the blower motor is a nightmare to replace in a 240, otherwise, I'd have it done.

I've got that noise when im idling at stoplights about %50 of the time. It's the bearings and i'm just going to live with it until I feel like dropping $400 for a new blower.

Until then, thank God Volvo gave us good soundsystems. Crank it up.

Hey Michael,
I'm not sure if it will work on the 240s, I'm not that familiar with them, but my friend that's got a 740 converted his belt fan over to an electric auto zone (mustang I believe) fan. If you want I'm sure he'd be glad to help you/give you any info on the swap.
