It's the time of the year where the birds are crapping all over my car and the hot -ish weather is baking it hard within a hour.
I already have two patches where the paint is etched by the droppings - garaging the car is not an option and short of standing guard 24/7 with a bucket of hot water/shotgun are there any tips on how to remove (if possible) the marks left after a bombing run.
My previous cars were pretty battered paintwork wise so I didn't really bother with this until now...
I can't believe that cars which have to endure the extremes of climate plus all that conifer sap in Sweden can have the paint etched within a couple of hours by a load of bird poo......

*search of forums produced one post which had no answers.

Re: Bird Dropping & Paint Damage (BobV50)

get a bottle of Mcguire's Quick Detailer. You can use to wipe off future droppings before they have a chance to etch the pant.
For the etches, get Mcguire's Scratch X. Dab it on a terry cloth towel, rub it in, forcefully, until it starts to turn dry, add more, rub it until it gets almost dry, continue this process and let the final coat dry completely before wiping it off. If you wipe it off while wet, it will mar the finish.
When finished, apply a coat of wax over that area.
Here's the link from when I had the same problem last year--
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=40859

I can vouch for this product, it is called a Clay Bar. It removes everything, including tree sap and what looks like rust spots etched on my paint which i can't even feel when I scrape it with my fingernails. It doesn't damage the clearcoat, but make sure you seal it with a hard coat of wax when you are done.
What it leaves is a mirror smooth paint/clear coat, almost in factory pristine condition.

Thanks for the reply - guess "poop" isn't a word I use that often;)
I'm in the UK, so hopefully my Halfords store (car accessory place) stocks this - they stock other Meguiars products.
Thing is, this mark appeared after only a couple of hours this morning (overnight at longest) - it hadn't been crapped on yesterday. Just dreading when the birds start eating the fruit off the trees/bushes, as that stuff eats through metal!!!
I might have to invest in a decent car cover - £100 might be worth while if it saves my paint....

Follow up - Halfords does have Scratch X so I'll give that a go.
aldebran,
Thanks for that as well - I found a place that sells the Mothers 'pack' you posted, so if the Meguiars fails the Clay Bar might do the job.

A clay bar isn't abrasive. If the paint is truly etched... it won't help. What it does is removes any surface contaminates, and is great to use after you wash and before you wax. That way you're not "waxing in" anything.

Claybar gets great results if you're willing to invest the elbow grease.
If I need a quick fix for bird poo, seltzer water usually will lift it off the paint without rubbing.

Got some Scratch X and it appears to have done the trick - true reveal will be during daylight and sunshine, but it looks like the mark has gone.
Now, I'll wake in the morning and find the car covered in guano........

I use water and kitchen towel or loo paper.
Lay paper on poo, saturate with water, leave for maybe 30 secs, wipe sodden paper and poo off car. Of course, you need to stay on top of the poo deposits and not leave it for more than a day at most.
