Today, finally, we received prices on all 2003 models.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the cost of the Bi-Xenon headlights; only $500!!!

Yannis

Re: Bi-Xenon headlights (GrecianVolvo)

The other night some SUV with Xenon headlights was opposing me on the interstate-- I couldn't tell what it was because the lights completely blinded me. I know that with the Xenon headlights a leveling system will help keep the lights from blinding oncoming traffic. This is probably a premature question but has anyone who has driven the XC90 had practical experience with the leveling system? Does it work well to keep other cars from being blinded? (I imagine that everyone wants to be in the driver's seat and not in another car opposing it!)
Chad.

Re: Bi-Xenon headlights (Veilig)

Veilig,
Yes, I think that it is a little premature question. I didn't order the Bi-Xenon headlights for mine. For I heard that there would be some law to regulate the bright headlights for the same concern you have. Even though it may be a rumor, it, however, sounds possible sooner or later.
I personally wanted to have it, but I don't want to make other drivers blind, which can put them in danger. The Volvo's leveling system sounds that it may prevent this problem. It would be O.K. to drive without it. The price $500 for the lights is great as Yannis said.
Well, that is just my opinion!

But you have to get the Climate Package, no? This would inflate the price by another $595. Personally, I just want the Bi-Xenon but not the Climate Package. Can the XC90 be configured as such, i.e. with Bi-Xenon but no Climate Package?

quote:
Today, finally, we received prices on all 2003 models.
I was very pleasantly surprised by the cost of the Bi-Xenon headlights; only $500!!!

Yannis

Unfortunately, you have to buy the Climate Package in order to buy the Xenon lights. Other packages too like the vesatility package. You have buy the premium package (for 2.5T AWD), which raises the price.
That is the way VCNA ordered US spec XC90 to the factory. Blame the VCNA

But the Versatility package is not required for Bi-Xenon lights, just like you said.

Re: Bi-Xenon headlights (crikey)

Thanks, Crikey. Yes, that is what I meant. Regarding the vesatility package, I mean that if you want to have the 3rd row seats for 2.5T AWD, you have to buy not only the vesatility package, but also the premium package. For the 3rd row seats are leather. Once again, that is the way VCNA ordered Goteburg factory to make for US spec. These package deals, I believe, are designed to raise the price.
Otherwise, the price could have been more appealing to the public; less profit, but more sales. That would bring more profit to Volvo for long term in SUV markets. However, Volvo belongs to Ford now, which has cheaper SUVs to sell too

Re: Bi-Xenon headlights (GrecianVolvo)

Yannis,
I don't have to know everything to say that. However, it seems natural for a person like me to come up to that thought when he/she sees the European Volvo community, where its customers have much more freedom to build their own cars instead of buying already-made packages.
If it were the factory driven policy to have those packages, then why wouldn't it affect the European spec vehicles? Differences in Specs affect few items, not all.
My point is that it is not Volvo factory, but VCNA (not just Volvo, but also BMW, M-B, and others in the NA) that controls the US markets to make those packages for American customers. They may change them later again, but that is not my point.

Re: Bi-Xenon headlights (GrecianVolvo)

No, Yannis. I am just one of the ordinary car buyers. My wife and I decided to buy an XC90, which will be our first Volvo. Mostly for safety reason (compared to other SUVs) for our young children.
I am overall pleased with XC90, but disappointed at the way VCNA wants to sell it to American customers.
That's all!
