Jim Fisher Volvo is on Burnside. They are very good, and the prices are fair. If you like door dings then Herzog is the place for you. If you like to do work yourself then IPD is a good source.

Stay the hell away from Jim Fisher service center as well as anyone recommending them. That russian disaster of a service shop is the worst dealer service center I have had the displeasure of working with, ever. If you want dealer service, go to the only dealer IPD will recommend, Herzog. There you can talk to Allen - Service Writer, and as for work to be done by either Matt Beaty or James Jackson.

Honestly?
Everyone has their own opinions and you asked for them.
I bought my R at Jim Fisher and had them service my V50 (not the R - yet!?!) The independants are going to be cheaper than the dealers and there are not that many R's in the area anyway for feedback.
Let us know who you pick and give us your feedback!

I had IPD install all my mods on my car, and I would go back to them in a heart beat. I've never heard anything good about Jim Fisher but I have no experience with them my self so I really cant comment on them.
H&M was very nice to me a while back when I had my S40. Just called to figure a few things out and the guy I spoke with was very helpful even though he knew I was from out of state and I was not going to buy anything from him.
Read up on Jim Fisher here....
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=91405
http://forums.swedespeed.com/z...43983

Just saying that I've been to both Herzog and Jim Fisher. Jim Fisher has done a lot of comps, never had a unpleasant experience and always gave me a loaner.
I've necer gone to HM side of Herzog. The service at Herzog was ok.
In the end both have their good and bad.

Higher prices etc... whereas the V-Shop and others will be independents with lower prices and other stuff that you would expect from a independent dealer.

At least a year ago, the front desk of the service dept. was manned by a couple absolutely useless ****s who provided absolutely horrendous service.

Anyway, a little far away, but there are good service departments at most of the Seattle-area Volvo dealerships. I use Ravenna. The dealership in Olympia, WA is supposed to be decent as well from what Frank used to say (with his heavily modified R).

Re: best service in Portland? (lhsa)

Herzog has always been awesome for me! Allen or Ron are both excellent SRs for them and have proven it.
I went in about 6 months into ownership (bought the car from them) for a failed front right wheel bearing. In the process of correcting the issue properly the first time, they also replaced THE ENTIRE angle gear assembly as it was failing unbeknownst to me. That was a couple grand of work easily if I was out of warranty.
That's my two cents, I've always been happy. I think whichever dealer is closer to you go with it until you're unhappy.

Re: best service in Portland? (lhsa)

Fisher is absolute cr*p! Stay away from them at all costs! They don't know R cars, and their service advisers are a joke . The service manager is a former district manager who is in bed with Volvo of NA, so if you ever want to escalate, you won't get anywhere, given the deference he is shown by the current Volvo NA Regional Manager as a result of his previous relationship with Volvo - I've been there and had to deal with this. It was horrendous. It wasn't until I walked in with a perfectly on point bit of case law printed out that things got done (even after talking to Volvo of NA!)
Herzog is at least decent, if not good. Early on I had a leaky sunroof, took it to Fisher and an advisor named Paul told me it was normal... Herzog had it fixed 24 hours later - just need to be adjusted a bit, that was all. Allan has always been nice to my Mom - who also drives an R car - and she can be pretty "trying," so I have to at least give them props for their customer service skills.
I really like H&M (subdivision of Herzog), in large part because when I need just an oil change, I know they can be counted on to do it right. Such a simple thing, but I really appreciate the fact that they are willing to do even little stuff with reasonable care.
Best of Luck
