Going to be running an electric water pump and fan on my engine (allowing me to dial in my temp), and wondering if anyone has experience in this department. I understand that as a rule of thumb, lower temps equal better power, higher temps yield better fuel economy. I believe 178 is the normal thermostat for B18/20s? Will running a lower temperature fight pinging, allowing more timing advance and power (or perhaps the ability to run lower octane gas; each grade is currently .30/gal more than the last in my area)? Maybe someone has used a lower temp thermostat? Or is 180 the sweet spot?
