I'm seeking a new -- or good condition used -- front bumper cover for my silver 2004 V70 R. I'm also seeking a replacement for the grill that surrounds the passenger side fog light. I'd be grateful for suggestions of the best/cheapest source. I'm in Chicago. There's no rush, the R is perfectly driveable, but a torn bumper cover and missing fog light grill make a poor impression. Like many of you I've tolerated the "drooping front lip" (and even fixed it twice only to eventually see my repairs undone by particularly high and catchy parking/wheel stops), but bashing the R in and out of snow drifts during this last Chicago winter actually tore the front of the front bumper cover and also caused me to lose that fog light cover. All praise to the R's AWD, though, for getting me through conditions in which I saw many others stranded -- and I feel that the R's fine performance in such poor conditions have earned it a new bumper and grill instead of another one of my homemade fixes.

04's are the same on both SR and VR. I bought a new bumper for my VR, had the old one painted while it was off, and put it on the wife's SR, changed perfectly. Everything transfered exactly, had it on in less that 30 min. that includes putting on the fog lights, grill, interior bumper components. Everything worked great. Chinas will work, pick it up!

Great, especially that it's silver! How much $ do you need for it, and do you mind if I ask why you're giving yours up? I'm sure yours is in better shape than mine, but have you even avoided the "drooping front lip"? And do you have any suggestion of the best way for us to arrange shipping from you to Chicago?

Re: (chinaonnitrous1)

I'm estimating, very roughly, that greyhound would deliver the bumper from its san francisco terminal (that's near you, right?) to chicago for about $60 -- which would be fine with me. I'll double check the UPS price. I might be able to get a special door to door UPS price through a connection I have. Can you tell me please how much you're asking?

Don't even bother with UPS, too large for them.
Special OVERSIZED pricing would be at least $200

Re: (JRL)

Hey, JRL, I know from years of monitoring this forum that your R knowledge is great. What's your best estimate of the weight of the front bumper? Of course I could take it off and step on a scale, but I don't want to take it off until I have a new one to put on -- and I need the weight to get a shipping estimate.

Re: (chinaonnitrous1)

I just had a friend ship an R bumper UPS last week and it was $149. (He had estimated shipping to only be about $90, so he lost a bit of his profit.) So if Greyhound is only $60 or $70 its a no-brainer.
JRL- Yes, I've seen one Volvo boxed, and your are RIGHT, it is GIGANTIC!

Lot of $$ for a piece that weighs only 20-30 lbs!
I was quoted $180 to ship one to Ca last year

Re: (chinaonnitrous1)

Whenever you want to proceed -- at your convenience -- just email, text, or call me for us to work out the remainder of the details. (I'll send you my cell phone# in an IM.) Two questions: (1) Assuming we use Greyhound as you suggest, would you bubble wrap the bumper, or can you ship it in the box in which your Evolve bumper came (or would you suggest something different)? And (2), would you be including the little grills that surround the fog lights? I lost my passenger side one. Thanks!

Whee whoring up a thread!
My body shop guy is going to get back to me.
You can have the fog light grilles, one of them is cut open for the R-kelly Intake. I'll probably let you know tommrow afternoon with a plan.
The factory bumper will be bubble wrapped, then plastic wrapped like crazy. I'm waiting on one transaction with Greyhound to see how it works out.
So far it was delayed at 2 stops due to luggage. So I want to see how it pans out first.
My Evolve bumpers were never in boxes

Haven't heard from you since June 10, so I thought I should check in. I remain interested in your front bumper if you're willing to ship by Greyhound to either Chicago or Chicago Cumberland Ave station. Pickup might be easier at Cumberland Ave, but either would work. We can discuss payment details by IM or email (I previously gave you my email address in an IM, and can send it again if you didn't keep it). I also remain interested in seeing a picture of the bumper if it's convenient for you to email or post one. Thanks!
