Re: Best ECU chip (R_Volvo)

IPD, most people agree that they have the best quality ECU's<p><A HREF="http://www.ipdusa.com" TARGET="_blank">http://www.ipdusa.com</A><p>I can tell you that when the time comes, that is who is going to do mine. And I will send mine to them to have it done.<p>

Re: Best ECU chip (Kaizai)

Thanks Kaizai. IPD was my first thought because their solid reputation (first got to know IPD several years ago while I owned an 83 240 Turbo).<p>But, looking through all these lists I see RICA and BSR that seems to offer much higher hp returns. While the higher numbers sound good, I am concerned about doing "too much" to the engine. To prepare for the ECU I'm doing shocks, brakes, exhaust & have switched to K&N and Iridium plugs.<p>Sure would like to have a 300hp+ car though!!!<p>Thanks,<br>Reggie

Re: Best ECU chip (R_Volvo)

Personally, though I have not had any first had experiece with BSR myself, that was going to be the chip for my car. There is/was a guy on the board that had one and loved it. Not only is it half the price of the iPd, it also comes with a cone K&N filter. Which not only helps air flow, but will also give you the bov wooosh when you let off the gas. oh yeah, and don't forget more power! :D They say to not go over 310hp because the tranny doesn't like it too much, but I figured with an exhaust it would be right under 300. Just my .02<br>

Re: Best ECU chip (turboale)

I'm looking at moving up to a chip as well & also have a 96 854R. Reggie, let me know what works for you. On Sweedspeed's project 854R I remember reading they found through discussions that once you exceed 300-310hp it can create other problems and/or need for modifications on tranny and engine. But, yes, I too want those 300 horses in my sedan without having to buy the new S60R. <p>You say BSR "was going to be the chip for my car"...what happened? Decide against doing the chip? Also...you mention that with exhaust "it would be right under 300"...is that with the IPD?<p>Thanks,<br>Brett<br>OKC

Re: Best ECU chip (854R)

"was going to be for my car"<br>as stated in my sig... I no longer have my 850. "it would be right under 300" there is no real way to know what power your making unless you dyno, but adding up all the claimed gains, with the iPd exhaust/bsr "power kit" it would be right around 300hp.

I have the BSR stage 3 kit for about a year now, I usually post at volvospeed more often than here or at volvotuning.com<br>I have no complaints. Quality, craftmanship is excellent, no engine check lights and the power is great and consistent.<br>I dynoed my car at 262 at the wheel.<br>Enough said

Re: Best ECU chip (BSR_rckt)

IPD ECU and Exhaust were ordered for my car before I even got it registered! Had it less than 48 hours and yanked the ECU to send it away.<p>The car is a rocket.

Re: Best ECU chip (850Rwagon)

I have a PES(GIAC) chip and I'm very happy with the power. I've had it for a few months now with no problems. Haven't dyno tested it or anything, but the power gain was very noticable on the buttometer at least.

Re: Best ECU chip (swdracr)

Well I have heard atleast that all the chips mentioned are good, and I can say that IPD is a great company to work with and the TME is probably the most reliable chip, but all the others seem to be just as good in many ways. It just makes sense that the more agressive tuning of some will cause extra wear on the engine. I have a follow-up question however. How do you go about getting a chip upgrade. I just want to make sure I understand this correctly, as my volvo is my main driving car. If I want a chip I have to either send them mine and have them send me the new one, or have them send me a new one and charge me a core charge until I send them mine back. Do I have that right, and is that how its done with all the places. See I dont like the idea of paying that extra charge, but I cant be without my car for the amount of time shipping would take. I also dont completely understand what you are paying for, I mean they arent cheap. As I understand all you are getting is the programing, because you are trading your computer in, correct.
