Everyone chime in when you receive yours and ask any questions, post your learning experiences, and pictures here. So far, I think four people have acknowledged shipment in the previous thread.

I'll be available for questions as well as Trey, only a phone call away.

Re: Bell Intercoolers FMIC's now shipping plus installation experiences (Cicada)

My Bell FMIC shipped yesterday & I believe all others will ship today (I did not need to wait for the correctly-sized Aquamist port plug). Mine should be installed by this time next week and I'm hoping to have my custom tune done later next week by EPL. Dyno results to follow including a comparison of the post-FMIC install runs with my BSR tune v. custom tune!

Unfortunately, UPS appears to be moving at the speed of molasses so mine won'tarrive until next Tuesday. Keeping my fingers crossed for a Wednesday install!

I am waiting to here some feedback from others before I purchase....

I had initially reserved a kit, but was away for a couple of weeks and I think I lost my spot. Anyways, I think I'll give him a call to see if I can still get one at the intro pricing.
That is if he still has one...

Sorry if this is a lazy question, but how much cutting, if any of the frame/bumper/bumper cover is required?
a.s.

e-mail Trey (e-mail above) for the installation manual.
No frame
No bumper
bumper cover/front facia, cut across the inside lower lip to clear the FMIC
one small cut in the metal to access the A/C recharge port as a result of moving the A/C condenser back/rearward.
No other cutting, complete bolt-in. Trey specifically designed it for minimal cutting and maximum efficiency. Wait for those that install it first for their reaction.

Re: (speedemon)

I received it yesterday and dealer was installing it today (Thurs). Unfortunately, the bumper bar on my '04 S60R (perhaps all S60R's) is different than the V70R bumper bar so the IC did not fit accordingly. Trey is working to resolve this issue for possibly the remaining S60 owners out there (V70R's not affected.) Since my track day is coming up, we couldn't wait for the part to try that solution, and the Volvo lead mechanic was able to machine some parts to get the IC in place. Tomorrow (Friday) it should be done along with the new ipd software using the softloader. I will have pics up hopefully by the weekend. Also I think we were able to get a very secure camera mount for $100 installed in the rear shelf area. More on that soon...

In spite of this unforseen circumstance, it has been great working with Trey and Bell Intercoolers and my service advisor and lead mechanic to resolve this. I owe them many many

Re: (RainyS60R)

Scott was gracious enough to expedite one to me due to my upcoming track event. Datalogging to begin today and hopefully a file will be returned to me for upload into car this afternoon. IC install almost done. Aquamist already in place. I'll have pics soon.

Did I mention Trey and Bell Intercoolers along with my dealer have been great in trying to resolve the mounting issues? http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Re: (speedemon)

Got an e-mail from Luis (L67_R)

He received the following e-mail from Trey and was having difficulty logging into SS.

Quote from Trey:

Hello R Owners,

As you likely know from the SwedeSpeed forums we have encountered an unforeseen installation issue with the S60R. A quick point of clarification, the V70R is not effected and the installation process for the V70R is as presented in the installation manual.

What is the problem? As the first system was being installed on an S60R yesterday (at Smother's European in Santa Rosa, CA) it was discovered that the bumper reinforcing bar is slightly different between the S60 models and V70 models. The bumper reinforcing bar is the metal structure that runs behind the front body work. This bar is set back farther (towards the radiator) on the S60 models as compared to the V70 models. This provides less space between the AC condenser and the bumper bar, the space where the new intercooler is installed.

The folks at Smother's were able to work around this issue and we will be reviewing their technique. I will also be visiting the local Volvo dealership to review a possible factory parts option that would involve using the V70R bumper reinforcing bar on the S60R. This appears to be the logical solution though I will find out within the next few hours. I will provide updates once I have had a chance to review the two bumper bars firsthand and discuss any other parts variations between the two models with the parts guy at Volvo. We will send along the proper additions to the installation process as soon as we have them sorted.

Obviously this changes the installation process from what was presented in the Bell Intercoolers manual. If any of you would prefer to return your systems rather than proceed with the installation we will provide a full refund for the system and shipping.

Thanks for your patience with this and talk to you soon.

Regards, Trey Hermann

Now that is customer service http://********************/smile/emthup.gif , even though profits are likely to go down for Bell Intercoolers on this project, they are stepping up to the plate to resolve the issues, thanks Volvo

Any updates on Bell FMIC deliveries or installs, or is it still on hold till Trey figures out what to do about Volvo's brilliant design differences????

Mine is still scheduled for delivery for tomorrow and install on Wednesday (assuming we get the S60-only install issues resolved).

Re: (moddeR)

WOW. I would have thought that the project would have been R&D'd for the S60 R....Not the V. As a tuner myself, I would think as a whole that the sedan would get most of the business.....So why do all that work on a wagon for development. Anyways it's great to see that Trey and the gang are stepping up to the plate http://********************/smile/emthup.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif I look forward to seeing the progress on this issue, Rick

Re: (Mash)

Makes you kind of wonder why the reimforcement bars would be different? It would have been more cost effective to have made these parts common amongst the V and S, so why would they be different and is it a good idea to switch them?

Re: (JKMachine)

Another e-mail from Trey this after noon.

Quote:

Hello R Owners,

Wanted to take a moment and bring you all up to speed on where we stand on the installation issue with the S60 models.

After spending time crawling around S60 and V70 models this weekend we have arrived at two possible options for the installation issue. The first was to change the design of the intercooler to fit the smaller space provided in the S60 models. The second option was to modify the S60 bumper reinforcing bar to accommodate the larger intercooler.

These options were put in front of our engineering staff this morning and we will immediately begin work on changing the intercooler design to keep this system a bolt-in design without the need for modifications to the structure of the vehicle. The engineers are reviewing the intercooler designs and core sizes available to calculate the performance capacity. My early calculations show the revised design will support 380-400 hp (at engine) versus the 450 hp (at engine) for the V70 intercooler system. I am working on securing an S60 for our design purposes and we hope to begin the fitment process Wednesday at the latest.

We will be selling both systems (380-40 hp and 450 hp) and, if needed, the larger system can be fitted to the S60 with modifications to the bumper reinforcing bar. We will also begin design of this new intercooler immediately and are hoping to have the new design locked down by Monday. I will keep you all updated as we move through this process and will let you know when we will be shipping the new intercoolers.

This new design is interesting from an engineering standpoint as we will be using two different core sizes to build the intercooler. Behind the bumper reinforcing bar we will utilize a 2.25 inch thick core and below the bumper bar will will use a 3.0 or 3.5 inch thick core. Both cores will be joined by a sinlge intercooler tank on each end. The cores will remain 18 inches long and the intercooler will have the same frontal profile as the current V70 core. Our large core inventory is a blessing here and allows us to find the exact core size we need to create this unique system.

To clarify quickly, if you have a V70R, T5 or 2.5T the current larger intercooler will install without a problem.

Thank you again for your patience with this hurdle and we will have this corrected as soon as possible. Please contact me at your convenience with any questions regarding the intercooler system, your order or a refund.

Regards, Trey Hermann
