Just thought I'd put this up here. Left my R with the detailer last weekend and he went to work on a full correction job on my paint. This is the first time I had this done to my R since I've got it.. he posted up a full before & after on a detailers board... if anyone's interested you can check it here:

http://www.autopia.org/forum/p....html

LOTS of pics on the post, LOTS of before and afters. If anyone is in the Bay Area I HIGHLY recommend his work.. he really went above and beyond and even handed me the keys to his 06 Honda 2000 to use while he was working on my R over the weekend. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I http://********************/smile/emlove.gif write-ups with pics on Autopia.

Your VR looks great. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif http://********************/smile/emthup.gif Did you buy it new? If so, did the detailer share some tips with you on how to keep the swirls away? My S60 T5 was black saphire and looked fantastic after a detail, but not having a garage it was very frustrating trying to keep it looking like new.

Yeah I think he will.. he travels as far as Sacramento and even Modesto and the Central Valley.. so I'm pretty sure he'd head up there. Hit him up.. I don't think you'd be disappointed!

Thanks dude! I thought he did a great job. I didn't buy it new.. I bought it as a lease return last summer after a few months of searching. Like you I've been pretty frustrated keeping it clean, but from experience I know it comes with the territory of owning a dark colored car. I asked him about keeping swirls off and he recommended the two bucket method with grit guard, which I already do.. but he also recommended using a grout sponge for washing.. mainly because you can just wring it out and the dirt comes right out of it. I also picked up a foam gun per his recommendation for washing

Also the normal stuff.. keep it clean and wax every few months with a good polish as well http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

Ballpark cost of something like this?

Depends on your detailer.. but this was 18 hours of work at $25/hr .. I know some people are all about doing it yourself but when it comes to this kinda work I'd rather trust someone who does this for a living, well worth the cost to me http://********************/smile/emthup.gif

I agree, that's pretty reasonable for the the swirls taken out. It takes me 6+ hours to do wash, clay, apply cleaner/polish (with orbital), and apply sealant (by hand). This does not include any polishing that would get out bad scratches/swirls or cleaning the interior.

The key now is proper upkeep and you might not need to have this extreme of a detail done ever again.

Do you have contact Info on him? I NEED to keep his number handy. A good detailer is a gem.

18 hours @ $25/hr.. like I mentioned before in the post to me it's well worth the money. I know some people like to do everything themselves but when it comes to these types of jobs I'll leave it to the pros!

that is actually a VERY reasonable price.

did he set you up on a maintenance plan, or are you just going to keep up with the waxing?

Re: (JoshV70_)

I got dizzy reading his writeup on autopia when he identified the 20th product he used on your car to detail it. IMO, this guy earned his dough - well worth what you paid. Car looks like it came off the assembly line - practically new. Even his peers are congratulating him for such a great job.

im sorry but that price is crazy. i do detailing as well as anyone for less than a quarter of that price. i have detailed a mudding trucks, escalades, jags, bmws, the list goes on and on. depending on the vehicle i could spend anywhere between 5 and 7 hours. and depending on the vehicle i charge 100 and 150. if anyone is willing to try me out and in tampa area or palm beach/miami area i would love to start work over summer. if i do anyones car and they are not satisfied i dont charge. o ya, and what kinda person is a "professional detailer". FAIL.
