Strange problem with my 2020 XC90 T8 which has been a trouble-free and awesome vehicle for me.

Got the R10312 recall done in early July. Car ran fine. About three weeks ago got the dreaded "hybrid system failure" warning/engine light on morning. The car would start to charge at night but wouldn't take a charge. Each morning it was 0 range.

Took a couple of weeks to get the car to the dealer, who I like and I think does good/honest work. They were able to get the car charging with what they claimed was a software update. They have done three charge/depletion cycles and the code has not returned. They are doing a test drive shortly.

Tech is saying this can sometimes happen when cells are unbalanced, but hasn't happened since I took delivery of the car (new) in 2019. I'm willing to keep an eye on it but just seems like we should have a better root cause/solution.

Any thoughts/advice?

ETA: Code in thread title is the trouble code tech says is the issue. There is also a BECM-P0AAB68 code and a bunch of miscellaneous codes that do not appear to be related to the hybrid system.

UPDATE: Have the car back for a couple of days and it's charging fine, driving great. Did get a call back from the dealership that Volvo is looking at this specific case and wants to replace the cells so we will do that when parts are ready.

It seems like there isn't a sense of urgency (safety) and was not told to avoid charging. Also seems like my car is in an odd state where they aren't sure if it's recall related but just want to be sure.

I wasn't happy with the lack of explanation/root cause but I think Volvo and the dealership are doing the right thing.

Will try to keep this updated for anyone else impacted.

Hi, I have experienced the same issue with mine, a 2020 XC90 T8.

The R10312 recall identified one faulty battery pack and they have done the replacement plus software update in June.

Then during hot august days I have had this BECM-P0BBD92 and a ECM-P128168 coming up.
The dealer had a look at the default and felt a bit lost at first sight, I had to insist for them to notice the the car did not charge at all.
They ended up saying that another battery pack needs replacement and I still wait for it to be done now.

I think that somehow the new battery management software applied by the R10312 is much more protective regarding the battery status and raises DTC sooner than previously.
