Yup, worth more in parts, so I should be fine if it does turn up as not worth it.

learned a bunch more about it.

last carfax service was in August at a Honda dealer. I spoke with them and they stated it was a diagnostic visit, and it needed plugs and coils, as well as “cvvt” selonoid. Well we know it doesn’t actually have the later.

in the test drive I learned:

car doesn’t leak a drop of anything.

it has a power steering whine, but is low on fluid and judging by color, wrong fluid.

engine oil looks ok.

by the stone lot AWD test, I believe it works.

it runs and besides the misfire seems fine.

trans shifts smooth but does hold gear until about 3500 rpm.

has the expected suspension noises.

exterior and interior are 100% in tact and it has a clean title.

plan of attack:

plugs and coils

trans drain and fill

power steering flush

engine flush and oil/filter change.

drain and fill coolant with proper.

then w’ll see where it’s at.

All of the above “repair” stuff ordered I’m only in about $450. I went with the cheapest available stuff for now, as I usually run amsoil in everything and FCP all parts, but in case it’s not worth fixing I’m only out a bit.

Old plugs and coils.

That took care of the misfire! I sucked all the yucky power steering fluid out of the reservoir and filled it with CHF, that took care of most of the whine.

small victories!

Today got 2 trans drain and fills done, 4 quarts each with proper Aisin fluid. Old fluid was black! IT SHIFTS LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO! Reset counter

I have another 12 quarts of trans fluid coming, I’ll do 3 more drain and fills.

also got an engine oil flush and oil change.

with that small victory I ordered the rear wiper arm, Haldex service kit and gear oil for the differentials.

starting to sound, drive and feel like a Volvo.

Forgot, replaced all the burned out bulbs as well.

Now you're talking! Real progress! ;)
Actually, good job! Lots of progress in a short period of time.
thanks! Trying to get it so it’s worth registering and insuring, so I can give it some proper shakedown runs.

lol, 8 bulbs were out! 1 headlight is still out.

Clear all the codes and see which ones come back soonest.

Also, have the battery tested. A weak battery can cause all sorts of problems.
forgot more parts….

battery tested good 14.8 or so, cleared all the codes a couple of times over the last few days, most of them are gone after today. Next time I get to play with it I’ll run a fresh scan and see what’s back.

It has at least some of the right coolant in it now.
Thermostat operation appears normal, no leaks.

the differentials are serviced. Amsoil savere gear 75-90, now in place of the very dark fluid that was in there.

ETA, has a working rear wiper too! The other one was extra floppy, due to being broke at the shaft (that’s what she said….)

You can do a full tranny flush by draining then overfilling the pan by 1 liter and pulling the cooler return at the transmission, then running out 2 liters and refilling 2 liters a few times until it's all looking new. That's how I do mine and it works awesome. For the power steering, after you siphon out and replace the reservoir you can just disconnect the return and stick it in a bottle, then run the engine while adding new fluid until it's looking new at the return.
