I get this really strange noise from my A/C, which is difficult to describe but is somewhat like the faint barking of a dog. Today I came across this review of the C70 from Mark Savage.
"However, the system barked some when first turned on. On short city drives it sounded like a dog barking faintly in the distance. I even turned it off once to see if the barking stopped, which it did, before I clicked it back on to hear the barking noise continue".
http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=467908
The sound in my car seems exactly what he is describing. Any similar experiences, thoughts, solutions?

Re: "Barking" sound from A/C (chicagoxc90)

I get the same thing occasionally. My service manager says it's the flaps on the airflow system to the car's interior that are actuating. He says if it gets really noisy to let him know....

The current S40/V50 has the barking dogs too. From what I have read, it's normal if they are quiet and bark only a few times when the car is starting out or the AC is adjusting once in a while. If your dogs are loud and bark continuously you may want to have your service department check it out.
http://forums.swedespeed.com/zerothread?id=41029
That thread has links to some earlier threads on the topic too.

Re: "Barking" sound from A/C (Northwest European)

I believe it was the dampers that we had replaced in ours. Sounded like a fluttering sound. Said there was a tech bulletin. They would not stop and just kept trying to open or close.
