My dealer performed the "Ball Joint Recall" repair on our '06 XC90 today. Now, the steering wheel is off-center.
I don't want to accuse the dealer of something they didn't do... but I drove the car to the dealer and it was perfect...
I am assuming they pull the tie-rods off to replace the ball joints. Right?
If you pull the tie-rods, you mess with the alignment, and the steering wheel. Awrg.
...And you wonder why some dealers give the others a bad name?
If you go back and ask nicely they will probably straiten it and align the car for you. Most dealers are not that bad, even if their attention to detail isn't the best.

I have no doubt they will take care of me 100%. It was just sloppy work by the Tech, not the Service Manager.
It is just a PITA to have to go back there...
(Hey, I just noticed my post title... it was "c ock-eyed" and the computer changed it to "rooster-eyed" - too funny!)

I say it's no big deal. They're gonna more than likely take care of ya.
Look at it this way, you get a fresh alignment on the house.
I'd be happy!
Good luck
Tim

Sorry if I might seem somewhat "rear-sighted" but the repair is the tie-rod assembly-
Make / Models : Model/Build Years:
VOLVO / XC90 2003-2006
Manufacturer : VOLVO CARS OF N.A. LLC.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 06V155000 Mfg's Report Date : MAY 03, 2006
Component: STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY
If your steering wheel is not cenetered when the car is driving on a straight and level street, you have an absolute issue to report.
Re: Ball Joint Replacement - Steering wheel now rooster-eyed? (cop R top)

The dealer is taking the car back Thursday for an alignment. In all honesty, I think they just replaced the tie rods (ball joints, whatever) and never did an alignment!
I just replaced the tie rods on my Porsche myself, and it is possible to "eyeball" the alignment with a tape measure (I did), but you need something a bit more sophisticated to check the settings when you are done.
I hate it when dealers try to cut corners.
I'll post the resolution on Friday.

I've gotten the front end in my Triumphs close enough to drive with a tape measure, but it would take a lot of time and effort to match an alignment machine.
Jack
