My S80 V8 just reached 117k and I started noticing a clunking/binding type noise when turning left while stopped or moving very slow. It happens in the same spot ever time, about 3/4 of a turn left from center. I can feel it clunk a few times in the steering wheel and brake pedal, and can hear it outside the car. It sounds like it’s coming from down low and the center of the car.

My first thought was maybe the strut bearing since they haven’t been changed as far as I know. I haven’t touched them and I’ve had the car since 59k

Any ideas? I’m really holding it’s not the rack but it sounds like it is

With those symptoms I would suspect a mechanical/suspension part over the rack.

I think if it was coming from the axle it would be easier to pinpoint. It’s hard to tell where the noise is coming from. It doesn’t really do it when the car is lifted up

Check the sway bar end links, tighten them. Even the smallest amount of play causes a hell of a clunk
