I regularly get bad fuel economy, but it's solely due to my driving habits...

Can you put some numbers to what you call "bad MPG"? What are driving conditions like (city/hwy)?

I can get 30+ mpg on the trip meter on the highway staying in 6th gear between 60-65 and not worrying about passing people.

Haha, yes, mine sucks.

I'm averaging about 16 mpg, mainly city miles or stop and go highway miles. Trip computer says my average speed is like <20 mph. Partly due to the remapped ECU and the over-zealous right foot, so I'm not complaining. Others with 'better' right foot could have achieve better mileage.

Re: Bad MPG 05 T5 (failurbydesign)

I average @23MPG City and @32MPG HWY on 91 gas. I use my cruise control all the time. My normal drive to work has 35/40 MPH speed limits and I usually drive only a couple over. Highway is 55/65/70 and I usually drive @6 or 7 over.

A few hard "races" and that those averages can drop pretty fast. However the worst I have had was @20MPG racing a lot. And the best HWY average I have had was 36 MPG.

I have found that tire pressure is one of the biggest reasons for lower MPG. I keep my tires at 41/43 PSI even though most places say to keep them at 35 PSI.

Re: Bad MPG 05 T5 (x-omatic)

I agree with X on tire pressure. http://********************/smile/emthup.gif I noticed you failed to due the fuel filter on your tune up.
Step 1: Go and change your fuel filter. By letting this clog up with out change not only do you lose MPG but you put unneeded stress on the fuel system.
Step 2: Check all your tires pressure. I usually run between 7 and 8 psi below the max cold psi on the sidewall.
Step 3: If you have not had an alignment in a while it may be time to go out and get it done.

My C3 gets about 29 highway... which is perfectly all right.

But it seems like my new tires (Kumho SPTs) are killing city mpg.
+1. They're super sticky but I have seen an average loss of about 1.5mpg. Boo!

Re: (Mistral)

I don't feel so bad now, it seems I am right there with you guys. I think my current average is around 23 mpg with mostly city driving. I get around 35 on the freeway if I let cruise control take over...

Re: (carreragt7)

I'm right around where you guys are at.

I do 50/50 city and highway. If I baby it, I can get around 24-26. Realistically, I get around 22-23.

City kills it, especially stop and go. Cruise control will net you the highest gains. I saw 33mpg coming back from a trip up north, with a heavy crosswind blowin the car around too. Without the wind, it prolly would have been a few mpg higher.

Re: (Vash13)

Go off the imformation on the sidewalls to determine proper tire pressure. Tires of the same size can have different max cold pressures. So when you change to a different tire than factory which most of us do at one point or another this is the best way to ensure the best performance. Note that certain situations warrant different pressures. You would want a lower pressure in the snow than you would say on dry pavement.

What kind of mileage is everyone getting at about 3000 rpms in 5th gear? I have an 2.4i 5M. The speed limit on the way to work is 70 mph and I'm curious what kind of mileage I'm likely to be getting with those high rpms.

I probably get the worse mileage from all you people since I ONLY drive in the city. 99% of the time is city. I average a little less than 400km = 248 Miles a tank. I am using 90 octane and I usually shift before 3000rpms and keep my revs a little lower than 2000rpms when cruising.
