So, today Im driving to the bank to cash a check and I notice a woo woo woo (in rapid secession) coming from my engine bay. WTF, I think to my self. So I make my way over to O'Reileys Auto Parts to talk to my buddy who works there and ask him about it.
He walks outside and quickly finds that the problem....
You guessed it, PCV hose... (ohhhh boy!
) is pretty much completely dry rot through and its straw like part of the hose just breaks off when he prods it with his finger. So, I grab what I came for - 6qts of Mobil 1 synthetic and the "expensive" oil filter - lol - and make my way down to the local Volvo Stealership.
Oh yea, they've got the hose and its only $32... BUTTTT, they tell me the whole thing is gonna need to be replaced as this is a VERY common problem and the part that needs to be replaced is $110. God only knows what installation would cost.
So I take my chances for now, and just buy the full rubber (redesigned) PCV hose and make my way to the shop to get the oil changed (hoping this might aid the problem - as I am told that this PCV problem tends to occur when the oil gets too dirty).
1hr later, the oil is changed and I start in to change out this dreaded hose. I get all the bolts out of the intake manifold except for ONE!!! Of course I break the 10mm socket driver on the last one!
So I have to get a friend pick me up and take me to get another 10mm socket....
20 min later....
All bolts are off and the upper part of the intake manifold is removed. I get the old hose out (it broke into 4 different pieces with almost no pressure) and put in the new one, clamp it on tight and re-install the manifold. Connect all the vac lines and sensors (so I thought) and started the car up...
At this point in time my car idles erratically and I get this message (which was previously not there):
"Reduced Engine Performance" and "Engine System Service Required"
I turn the car off and look under the hood and see that the MAF sensor and vac line ARE NOT connected, so I quickly attach them andddd.....
there goes the woo woo's again! Just as loud as before!
"Well," I say to myself, "I gotta get home at some point tonight..." so I make my way home hoping that these messages might either go away or not cause too much stress (on me) cause I def. hooked everything up right (obviously
). So I pull out onto the street and the car stalls... I re-crank it and proceed 25mph (with great effort on the engine, as I can tell by the way its driving) all the 1/2 mile home.
So, long story short, Im stressed as F*** about this cause Im already a broke college kid and cant be dealing with this right before Finals.
Luckily, I found this via the Search function, do think this might cure my problems????
Any advice is welcomed!
