Hi there,

I just had my car into the dealer to perform a software install. I had installed the electronic power folding mirrors a few days earlier.(which rock!, thank you John BVV) The button and mirrors were installed by myself and when I left the car with the dealer the ECU buttons were all backlit. The backlighting had worked fine for days since the hardware was added.

Driving home I noticed the Air Recirculation and the A/C buttons are not backlit anymore.

Am I to assume this is light bulb issue or a wiring issue? This couldn't be a result of the dealer hooking into the car could it? Is it worth my time to pull apart the ECU? Are the lights accessible inside the unit?

If I can replace the bulbs myself, I will go pick them up in the AM and take the headunit and ECU out tomorrow. I would appreciate if anyone has part numbers for the bulbs or experience getting at them.

Thanks folks!

If not there is a post/how to write up on every bulb and how to change them...If I recall correctly there is even a guide to upgrade all of the bulbs to LED, DIY.

I will search around a bit for you but yeah try tapping on the console right above the temperature knob on the left facing side.

Thank you so much for finding the post and your help. FYI, I tried the tapping, but no luck. (I had an S80 with a bulb like that where a tap would always bring it back)

I can't believe they made the bulbs so easy to access, that's great. I'll go and pick a couple bulbs and then replace. I figured I'd have to tear into the ECU, but that should be super simple. Hats off to Volvo.
