Some of you might recall my first tail light retro but if not, here are the threads:

http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?133370
http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?136764-S60R-true-LED-tail-retro-the-journey-ends

Well, an ss member has put me up to the task of doing him a set. The design will be more of what others have voiced in the past, strips of leds contouring the tail lights or at least partly contouring ;) Another member has done something similar here:
http://forums.swedespeed.com/showthread.php?118356-LED-Tails-and-Front

I will post pics of the process here so if you're interested, stay tuned....

UPDATE:

Ordered led strips and parts to create the opti-drive controller.

On a side note, I was foolin' around with pwm and the PIC. Maybe alittle startup animation?!?!

something to replace the normal drl would be nice, say removing the diffuser and replacing it with a plug n play leds instead--> make it better looking than current drl, not necessarily making it try to compete with euro lights... just making the us version suck a bit less style wise.,, and taillights.

could probably have leds to replace turn signal side markers, puddle lights, etc...

I replaced a lot of bulbs with SMD's: puddle lights, all interior map/dome lights/floor, reverse light, rear license plate lights. I've been wanting to do the turn signals but without the proper resistance it'll blink too fast and cause a bulb out message on the dash but I wonder if I can change the turn signals indicator on the fender, dont think SMD/LED that will make it blink any faster and so it shouldnt cause any error codes. Then again, main reason I didn't because it really would look any different.

I would like to have my rear tail lights have the LED bar on the edge, that would be awesome!!

The xc60 look is easy enough to replicate with some lexan from the hardware store and a heatgun, but I've been having a hard time trying to find a place to fit it without messing up the tails too much, I need a junk set to play with so I don't ruin mine :)

UPDATE:

Got the animation and software buttoned up. Check out the vid which really can't show the beauty of the animation (again don't mind the led alignment)

Decided not to use the controller cause we want to do some startup animations. Here's a shot of my circuit with a PICaxe 08m at the brain!:

Using a sharp low voltage drop 12v reg with a on/off pin. Using the PICaxe to feed a pwm signal to that on/off pin on the reg! So, we get animation/more control of led brightness while using pwm still! Perrrrrfect
