I'm looking to trade/sell my Magnum R/T to buy an R. But before I do I need to know if child seats will fit well and I will have enough room to be comfotable
(FWIW: I'm 6' tall or 1.828 Meters and 190lbs or 86 kilograms)

I'm looking for pictures of child seats in the rear of an S60 R and V70 R.

I need to know before I pull the trigger and fully commit to an R. The Magnum has plenty of back seat room for my two kids, 3yr Girl, 11mo Boy.

R's backseat is tight compared to a Magnum or 300C.
How tall are you? I'm 6'3", and it would be difficult to put a rear-facing child seat behind me. Front facing isn't a problem.
The wagon has a little more room than the sedan.

I'm 6'2, and there isn't much room behind me when I sit (I have to scoot up for larger passengers behind me). However, there is enough room for a rear facing child seat.

This is in a V70r mind you.

No pics, but I've got an '04 V70-R and (am in the process of getting rid of) an '01 S60 T-5. V70 has considerably more rear legroom than S60. Also have a 23 month old and his front facing "toddler" seat was quite tight in S60 (in fact, it only really worked in the middle), but fits quite well behind the driver seat in the V70, even with the seat about 85% of the way back.

I presume you're aware that a high % of late model Volvos come with the built in booster seats. My boy isn't quite big enough to use them yet (I think the minimum height/weight is something like 40 lbs/36"), but they're pretty slick and because of their design, rear legroom is less of an issue - the front half of the seat sort of forms a "footbed" for the little gaffers.

Good point, I wish my R had the booster seats built in. They cannot be retrofitted either from what I understand.

Only on the wagons. Sedans do not have built in booster seats as option.

The built-in booster minimum weight limit is 33 pounds and 38". I only mention it because some kids may take around two years to go from 33 to 40 pounds. BTW, rear-facing car-seats when fit properly do not fit in very many small and mid-size cars (and SUV's) behind a tall driver. Many people install them at too-great an angle (as in too upright) in order to fit them. If you take it to the dealer for a test drive, make sure it fits at the proper angle. I'm glad my rear-facing car-seat days are over, because it's a major PIA.

I believe you're correct if you're talking about a dealer install, since they are a factory option. You can always try to pick up an entire rear seat with them off of e-bay - my S60 doesn't have them and I looked into it for awhile when we were expecting.

We had a rear facing seat in the S60 (middle rear seat) and, while tight, I'm certain it was sitting properly. Going to be needing the rear facing seat again in another couple of months

and it does fit better in the V70R.

Here is my Volvo booster seat I picked up at the factory in Goteburg. My 3 year old is able to kick the seat back.

Previously I have put a forward facing child seat in without a problem, but it was tight.

If you are looking for rear seat leg room, definitely get the V70R. Comes with 1.9 more inches. (35.2 vs 33.3).

You can also see my water bottle holder, a rare option evidently.

The rear facing is almost a non issue, as the boy is 11 months and 22 lbs. The girl on the other hand is 3.5 years and only 28-29lbs. When she hits 40.1lbs she will be going to a booster. That should be in about another 3 years

I wouldn't mind a v70 r for the room and cargo, but they are hard to find here.
Either way I want a family car that is realy fun to drive.

Thanks R Kelly, although I don't know of many cars where the kids can't kick the seat back. Maybe a VW Mybach (SP)

FWIW The Magnum has 40.2 listed for back seat leg room. We also have a Grand Cherokee and it's listed as haveing 35.3 for rear leg room. I can have my daughter in back of me when I drive it.

Kelly, we have the same seat. I picked it up in Goteborg as well.
Question - where did you get the green wrap on the seatbelt? I'd like to get that for my daughter. It would make her more comfortable.

This might be in the owner's manual somewhere but most jurisdictions have the min wieght for a booster seat at 40lbs.
There is more rear seat room in the V70, we could get at the time, two full sized car seats and one adult back there without too much trouble. I would second the opinion of taking your carseats with you to the dealer, any V70 will do for this trial fitting.

Having both an S60R and a V70R (the latter without the booster seat option), I can tell you the following:

1. No problem fitting rear or forward-facing car seats in either car.

2. A rear-facing seat (properly positioned & angled) will not leave much in the way of legroom for the person in front of the child. We had a rear-facing seat for my youngest on the passenger side of our V70R for a few weeks and after riding for 45 minutes in the front passenger seat after wisdom teeth removal (

http://********************/smile/emthdown.gif ), I was definitely anxious to be able to stretch-out. Please note that I'm 6'2" tall and weigh 200 pounds.

3. That being said, this past weekend we switched the youngest over to a front-facing seat and there is plenty of legroom when in either front seat. Only caveat is that my two and a half year old likes to stretch-out so I do need to move the front seat a little more forward than when I'm driving alone - not uncomfortable bur shortened legroom nonetheless.

(We have two Britax Marathon seats which are good to 65 pounds).

Well, the Booster said minimum was 33 lbs, and our daughter is over 35 lbs and 40", so we are comfortable using the Volvo booster. Course, she just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago, she is bigger than most of the 4 year olds in her class.

We just picked up the seat belt wrap at the Base Exchange, any Babies R Us should have it as well, check Amazon.com

Got a '99 Grand Cherokee, too

, and IMO there is marginally more room in the back of the V70R than the GC with the same forward facing car seat installed. In other words, if you think you've got enough room now with your GC, you shouldn't have any problem with a V70, with or without the built in boosters.
