Picked up my new V90CC from some very nice people at Volvo of Keene, NH and made my way home to Virginia after a weekend in upstate NY. Combination of beautiful windy roads in the Vermont mountains and country roads up through central NY made for a wonderful introductory ride in this incredible vehicle. Managed a few short runs on dirt roads, but mostly got to play with autopilot and the different driving dynamics settings over the course of a couple of days of driving, while getting a feel for handling and power on different types of roads.

I don't think I need to repeat what's been said in many other reviews, but I will say that this was one of the most enjoyable driving experiences for me ever. I added polestar to the purchase on this maple brown/tan unit at the last minute after reading some positive reviews, and power did not disappoint. Coming off a diesel SUV, I really appreciate mid-range torque, and the polestar V90 has plenty. Drop it into Dynamic range, and the stiffer chassis (with air) and faster gear changes make this as sporty a drive as you could expect in a car this heavy and large. I wasn't expecting a porsche ride, and it's not, but it's light years better than the Touareg SUV I'm replacing, and for a vehicle this luxurious and spacious, that's pretty amazing. So nice to be back in a lower vehicle that doesn't give you that topsy rocking chair wobble common to every SUV I've ever ridden in. I'm sure the regular V90 would be an even tighter handling ride, but if you need the higher clearance of an SUV like I do, I bet this is the best riding vehicle you will find.

Lux package seats are a godsend, especially when it got humid and I started up the seat ventilation. I feel a bit embarrassed at the decadent luxury of having a seat massager, but dang if that didn't just knock out the kink in my back. My oh my, that's a wonderful thing. Seat extensions are a must if you're my height 6'2", so lux package is the goods for us tall ones.

Everything about the ride just exudes stability, confidence, and when you hammer on the pedal with polestar, even a good bit of fun. B&W sound system is simply awesome, and the pilot assist way more useful than I thought it would be. I ended up using pilot assist the whole way down on the highway, and found it made highway driving a lot less stressful. Wouldn't rely on it on country roads, but it's quite nice on the highway. I like how Volvo has approached this a driver's aid, not (yet at least) as a full driver replacement.

I was amazed to see the car better its epa rating with a 32.6 mpg for a 7 hour drive where I had put it in eco mode. That's better than my diesel Touareg, and while it can't tow nearly as much as the Touareg, that's not important to me anymore, and the Volvo is just a better driving experience in every other way.

Still figuring out the array of sensus functions, and some of the menu items are easy to miss on the touch screen while driving, but it's not too bad. A few more buttons would have been nice, but it's a responsive system that works well once you figure out the menus. Can't wait to start the car remotely this winter before skiing.

Nice to be back in the Volvo family after a ten year gap. I remember my old XC70 as a decent enough car that just wasn't as much fun to drive in the end as the allroad or even the Touareg Tdi that replaced it, but the V90CC tops them all in just about every way that matters to me. Couldn't be happier with this purchase.

Sounds fantastic! Put an IPD rear bar in it as soon as they make one and add a catback exhaust and you'll have one hell of an all-road performer on your hands!

Would seriously like to know your NAV & Sensus experiences when you have spent more time with them.
Congrats!-Richard

My initial impression of the nav was that it's a very good system, with easy controls, and responsive inputs. I'm a little less impressed with routing choices and found myself resorting to google maps on my phone to get at a better route. With apple CarPlay it's easy enough to display the phone map on the sensus screen, so that's one solution. The alternate route selection on the sensus was a bit cumbersome, which is why I ended up using the phone map.

Only nitpick so far is I'd like to see one screen where all my favorites/presets from sxm and fm could be displayed together, but as it is I have to go into sxm or fm first and then select favorites before I can see the list. Maybe there's another way. Otherwise I find it a perfectly decent system and I look forward to getting better at navigating the various menus. Sure, it would have been better to have a few more buttons for key functions, but then those can't be upgraded later. Weaknesses in the interface will hopefully be improved over time with new downloads.

Does the 14 gal fuel tank bother you? I see it as the biggest hurdle to a future purchase since I drive from OH to SC multi times a year.

It's 15.5 gal, IMO. Also, a full tank give you at least 420-450 mile range (considering 65-75 mph freeway driving). I doubt you will outlast the tank (kudos if you do!). I do a lot of interstate driving and normally have to take a pee/smoke/coffee break every 400 miles or so. It works out perfectly for me!

Neat initial review! I totally agree with you on the Lux. Package option. The thigh extenders are god-sent!

With iOS 12, which was just released this week, Apple opened up support for 3rd party navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze with CarPlay. It requires the developers of those applications to use the CarPlay API that has been exposed and release a new version with that functionality. Google got theirs done and released, I heard somewhere that Waze was working on it and it might be in beta test now. I just updated to 12 yesterday and haven't driven the V90 yet so haven't tried it personally yet. This is good news IMHO and I applaud Apple for removing this restriction.

Tried Google Maps today and it worked pretty seamlessly. I'm not that familiar with it, was primarily a Waze user before we got the Volvo and then used Apple Maps. Doesn't work with Siri, but there is a way to activate the mic directly in Google Maps that isn't quite as convienient but not too bad. It will be interesting to see how Waze works when they release it.

If you're tech savvy, the Shortcuts app will let you create some Siri shortcuts that essentially add Google Maps or Waze Support to Siri.

For example, you can make a shortcut so when you say "Directions to my next event" which gets the next appointment on your calendar and pulls up directions to it. One of the options int he Show Directions function of Shortcuts is to choose which Maps App to use. Google and Waze are options if they are installed.

I haven't tested yet, but you should also be able to create a shortcut like "Directions with Waze" where Siri prompts you to ask where you want to go.
