Hi guys;
Just came back from a 10 day trip to South Carolina - my V50's first extended trip. It's during trips like these that these cars transform themselves from sexy wagons (yes, wagons can be sexy!!) to family workhorse! With the discussions in other threads about gas mileage, figured I'd post some numbers. This is filling-up with 93 octane.

Anyhow, the report from the trip computer reads like this:
Ottawa to Myrtle Beach, SC and return trip

Distance traveled: 3734 km (2320 miles)
Gas mileage: 9.7 l / 100 km (24.2 miles/gallon)
Average speed: 92 km/h (58mph-this includes 8 days of driving around town - highway average after the 2 first days was ~ 112 km /h (69mph) IIRC)
Also note that I had installed a rooftop box (Euro weekender from Volvo) for the trip (I will be posting an "How-to" to installing the roof rails shortly)
First comment: My boy is dressed just like the monkey in the background
Second comment: You can't go faster than 125 km/hr (77 miles per hour) with a rooftop box before you notice a significant drop in the instant milage on the computer.
Cold sweat moment: Check engine light came on leaving a rest area in North Carolina on the trip back home. Worried about it until we stopped for gas- check every fluid levels, everything seemed fine, so wekept on driving, light stayed on for the entire trip back and for the next 2 days. Then it shut itself off.

Modified by Dede at 9:22 PM 7-19-2006

Re: Baby's first trip: mileage report (Dede)

CEL being on was probably a loose gas cap. It takes about 2 days for the computer to reset itself.

Re: (bpwrightwv)

On the drive down, we stayed on Interstate 81 from Northern New York (crossed the border north of Watertown) until we got to Interstate 64 (Stauton), went East until we hit HWY 95 to Richmond. So we didn't go anywhere near Summersville. Took a different route back though...
BTW, we drove down on July 4th, lot less tractor-trailer traffic, but a lot of police patrolling!
As far as speed, I set the cruise control at 75 mph in 70 mph zones, and 72-73 in 65 mph zones. Figured that would be safe enough ?

It is Passion Red. I agree the colour looks deeper in the picture above, not sure why but that's the only pic that seems so dark. I haven't seen the new red you are talking about, isn't it only available in Europe? We have a very limited set of colours to pick from in Canada, only 7.
