A friend of mine can't get his 5-speed transmission to pull free from his B230F engine. He has removed all the bolts holding the bell housing to the engine block, and tried to pull it free using ratcheting straps. Has anyone encountered this problem before, and what was the solution. He is concerned that his input shaft is somehow fused to the back of the engine. He pulled the engine and transmission out as one unit last night and has asked me to seek help over the internet.

If the tranny seems to be 'frozen' to the engine block, try using a prybar (the one in the standard Volvo toolkit is perfect) or very large flathead screwdriver in between the two. I tugged and tugged on my tranny, but it wouldn't budge. But my M46 tranny had a very small, thin opening at the bottom of the bellhousing where it meets the engine block - I used the prybar in here, and with virtually no effort the tranny popped free. HTH...<P>
