Quick question, I need to take out front axle and everything was running smoothly until i got to the tie rod end and ball joint. One bolt holds on each and i am able to turn the nuts on both but the nut is not actually coming off the bolt. I dont know if i am just retarded or if i have to counter hold something. COuld somebody give me a quick rundown on removing the tie rod and ball joint? Thanks!

Hey brother. Sorry you're having issues. The nut is an 18mm nut. Use a box wrench if you have it. In the center of the post (threaded portion) there is a T40 inlet. Put a T40 torx bit on a breaker bar to act as a counter brace and unscrew the bolt. I used a large breaker bar from the undercarriage on top of the lower control arm and forcing it downward, used that to break the ball joint free of the lower control arm. I hope that helps!

Reviving this thread because I was changing my driver's side front wheel bearing and when I pulled the knuckle out of the LCA, I accidentally separated the inner CV joint. :( So, I've got the knuckle loose and the tranny fluid drained, but how the F do you get the axle out? They put that lip all the way around the axle-tranny joint that prevents me from getting a screwdriver or something in there to pry. I have angled pry bars, but I haven't found a good way to work around the subframe. I tried just pulling, but can't break the tension of the C-clip. Is there a trick to this or is pull super hard the answer?

The D/S axle is a pain to get out sometimes, especially if that C clip has a burr on it... very difficult to get leverage. I used a "wonderbar" from lowes or HD... it seems to work ok, but it takes quite a bit of force, patience and keep turning the axle 1/3 rotation at a time between tries... gotta get that cclip to let go
