i have thought about switching to an AWD system! do you guys think it would be hard, and is the AWD system really better for traction, snow conditions, also what all would i have to swap? while i had the whole car a part i would swap in a manual. do you guys like the AWD system i would like to hear everyone's opinions about AWD?
ps i am kinda a noob, but i am working at a shop over the summer.

Gas tanks are totaly different
2. the rear ends will need to be swaped
3. you will need a full parts car.
4. mounts are different and the rear end of the coupe is wider then a wagon or sedan.
5. Not only will you need a full parts car you will need the awd tranny
6. Most AWD cars now will need a new angle gear and or driveshaft.
7. You will have to get a custom drive shaft made.
8. Volvos AWD system from 98-02 sucks
so.... if you want awd buy a 03 XC

Re: (T598C70)

is the xc70 o3 and up a better platform?
if the AWD is in tip top shap do you still think it is worth it? basically i want to know everything about the AWDs there is to know? and what is the power distribution in the AWD systems form front wheels and rear wheels? it would be a wast of time if it was 70% front wheels and 30% rear.....
ok let me first state to you guys my plans and budget if i start this project. if i take on this project it will be 4-6 years in the making almost everything will be custom. my plan would to build a car thats a Sunday driver, and "street legal", in the 450 to 475 range at the crank. over the whole time interval i would realistically spend between 20k and 25k. i know i could go buy an evo or sti and meet my goal , but this is more about my design work and R&D.
LOL buy a evo or a STI and put down 500+ to the wheels and still have a perfectly fine DD .
the 03 will be a better platform due to the haledex but how you will get that to work with the rest ofthe car ????
I dont know about the power distribution might want to ask about that in the R forum.
But hey if you want go for it , but to me seems like a fight in fuiltiy when you can just buy a evo and throw a big turbo on with a tune and have the same deal.

Its been done before and it looked terrible, the awd system adds alot of weight and the car had to be jacked up like a monster truck to fit the system...
