Re: AWD Upgrade (tim1981)

There was a company (Heico I think) that had worked on an upgraded "flash" for the Haldex, but Volvo shut that little operation down (as it was a collaboration, not an independent project). It can be done, but would take someone with a lot of knowledge of the system. Also, the angle gear on our cars would probably not enjoy a more aggressive rear drive scenario. An "on the fly" or switchable program would be nice, depending on road conditions, climate/region, and track use.

Re: AWD Upgrade (AthruC)

I believe it was Evolve who worked with Haldex to adjust the front/rear power distribution

Re: AWD Upgrade (Bishen)

The AWD components aren't strong enough to handle any more force. Trust me. Besides, no one makes a control module that would do this on a Volvo. Its a no go...

that website does have the control module that we need<br><IMG SRC="http://www.hpamotorsports.com/images/drive/gen2.jpg" BORDER="0">...only problem is NO ONE makes an upgraded bevel gear (or collar) so if you were to install the upgrade ...by by to about 1500 worth of parts...<br>hey i think thats a good idea for an IPD Performance part!

Re: (PSAC)

It's doable with a flash IMHO. The problem, as stated, would be the (much) added wear on the angle gear. Make that reliable (<IMG NAME="icon" SRC="http://www.vwvortex.com/vwbb/rolleyes.gif" BORDER="0">) and you're set.

Re: (PSAC)

Why would the angle gear be stressed much more? I thought the angle gear was permanently engaged, and worked all the time regardless of AOC lockup?

torque that is applied thru the gearing when you engage the ODC (on demand coupling) or aoc.... <br>if you allow for more torque to go thru the gears say bu bye to metal

Re: (PSAC)

The driveshaft is always there (and therefore always engaged). It is then connected to the Haldex unit that is then disengaged, or "fully" engaged sucking up to 50% (I believe) of the hp/tque from the transmission. So while "always engaged," the angle gear has a marginal load. A modified programming in the Haldex module would have it engaged more often and for more power than stock. You see the issue...<p>I also wonder how that would all interact w/ the chassis and traction control gizmos.

Re: (AthruC)

My neighbor just upgraded the Haldex unit in his VW R32.<p>He asked me if there was a similar unit for the Volvo Rs. So I'm glad to see this discussed here. But my impression is the a Haldex upgrade could mean a downgrade to our reliability...something I don't want.<p>At any rae, I have my rear wheel drive coupe to give me more jollys when needed. The R is a very good daily driver and winter car for up here.

Re: AWD Upgrade (tim1981)

Almost EVERY component would have to be upgraded especially in an R.<p>This was SO urgent that Volvo let Haldex know that if they were going to try to sell this, that there would be "serious consequences"....the project was shut down<br>This unit has been around since 04 but Volvo was quite unmovable on this.

Re: (SHIFT_S60R)

I remember that too. He "hardened" the components, right?<p>I'm also talking about non-searchable stuff here (...a little birdie type of stuff).
