Are autostarts okay to use on a turbo engine? Heard bad things about it, mostly emissions related. Anyone have this installed on a Volvo with a turbocharger?
After getting in my car when it's 20degrees F out, I'm considering a remote start for my next car. Darn those leather seats will be cold on these days. Fortunately I currently have cloth seats so it's not too bad.
Ron

A car that warms up quick? Man am I missing something. Takes my Passat 10 minutes for the engine to warm up enough to blow hot air.
How long does it usually take to warm up the car? Especially when it's idle?
I don't park in a garage so the car is outside all night. Not sure if this will have an issue with the Volvo warming up.
TIA
Ron

Back to the issue, any word on autostart? I'd be interested, always helps to defrost the windows before ya get in too, rather than defrost and wipers for a few minutes, and squinting at what look to be tail lights good enough to follow, through the windshield.

Re: Autostarts? (xtremepsionic)

xtremepsionic: There are tons of things wrong with my VW at the moment. Hence why I am on this board as I am looking at getting a Volvo. My mom's brand new 2002 Jetta Wagon 1.8T has the same issue. It takes about 10 minutes for it to blow hot air. 5 minutes to blow warm air. Here last car, a 95 Golf took 4 minutes to start blowing hot air as well.
This is on the list of things for the dealership to fix when I bring her in for her 60K tunup.
Ron

well, I've heard of my sis--someone I know, start her car then take shower, dress, eat, and then leave for work!

Must have something to do with the coolent routing on VWs. I wonder how long it took an air cooled beetle to throw hot air!? Guess Germans must be very warm blooded
