Hello!
I have a crashed 91 940 T that I am resurrecting into a light drift car. I am looking into budget radiator options as the one on the car is toast. I was looking into getting a manual radiator and swapping to an external transmission cooler. Is anybody else running this setup?

I have installed large coolers for older cars with troubled transmission with lots of silvery fluid but no bits of metal with success. About 5 years ago I bypassed the radiator of our 03 Odyssey. Friend had an extra that was curved from shipping damage and when I installed it the threads for the transmission line stripped easily. After much research on the pros and cons of a bypass I decided to give it a try. The transmission fluid is still nice and red after 5 years with no odd smell and the curved radiator has held up also. OE transmission with 200K miles never ran better and now at 248K miles. Never saw temps over 180 even on hot summer days. Here is what I used.

I gone through close to four cases of 12 in various makes and models doing a full flush. Back them if was $35 to $60 a case of 12 on Amazon. Had to give it try at that price and it's been an excellent fluid. Use it in the powersteering also.

Havoline Full Synthetic Multi-Vehicle ATF

I've used 3 of these Hayden coolers and on the Odyssey it was a bypass. Still have 2 sitting around that I've never gotten to.

If you are going to increase HP you may want to consider Swepco. Have gone through many many cases of these in past in the 20W. Was under $5 a quart of 24 qt. a case back in the day. This was in the factory GT2 back in day per Dieter of Andial. Not sure about it now. Check a local Porsche Indy or call Swepco direct for your local rep.
