Re: automatic tranny flush (ee778a)

Have a trustworthy independent do it and use Redline D4 ATF. It costs only 9.50/qt vs 17.30/qt from the dealer. Plus labor will be less expensive. You can buy the Redline from iPd. I noticed an imediate difference after flushing my fluid.
They (iPd) are awesome and the fluid works great.

Re: automatic tranny flush (JRL)

JRL is correct according to my dealer, lawrence volvo in walnut creek ca.
the Mobil ATF 3309 is acceptable to them. i took some in and it was evaluated by the tech staff. they accepted that it is the same specification for the volvo asin warner transmisssion (5 speeds). the earlier cars, 4 speed auto can use the other fluids according to them.
But the 55-50 must use volvo or the mobil atf 3309 fluids. they both have special friction modifiers for this tranny. it is $4 a quart at many good suppliers.
there is a thread somewhere on here that goes into more detail.
JRL is right. period. . . .

Re: automatic tranny flush (JRL)

Has anyone flushed a newer model? (I've done my 98 a few times with no issues). The reason I ask is that the connection to the cooler looks different then my 98.

Re: automatic tranny flush (geo1)

geo1,
I did our '01 V70 about 10K ago. Easy DIY if you're even mildly mechanically inclined. I followed a great step-by-step I've been searching for since I saw your post; maybe someone knows where to find it? The connection to out-flush is a green plastic fitting on the driver's side of the transmission fluid cooler. Pinch & pull. Fill through the dipstick hole.

Re: automatic tranny flush (Steely)

Steely,
Thanks!! I see the green plastic clip so I'll follow your advice and remove the line. Once thats out I'll follow the same procedure that I use on my 98 S70.
Thanks!
George

Re: automatic tranny flush (Steely)

Is the Mobil 3309 ok to use on the earlier 4-spd trannies ('98 V70XC), or should I go w/ the Redline?

Re: automatic tranny flush (MadeInJapan)

I read that thread, which is what precipitated my question. I spoke w/ the local Volvo Stealership, and was told that my takes normal Dexron/Mercon III, not the synthetic (Mobil 3309)

Re: automatic tranny flush (Mk1Racer)

I agree. However I don;t thinkt he Mobil will hurt the earlier trannys but it WILL hurt using the Daxtron on the later 5 speeds. YOu mUST use the Moil on those AsienWarners
