Has anybody done it with their s40? And can give tips/suggestions. My plan is to get into this once my suspension is up to par:
http://www.wdcr-scca.org/SoloA....aspx

Thought about it, but haven't yet. I wanted to wait until I got my springs in (already had sway bar) and that just happened 2 weeks ago. I guess it's time to hit the track! The car stays much flatter in turns now, so I am glad I waited.

Re: Autocross anyone? (gmugolf)

I've done it but not in my S40, just in my R32. Actually just did one last weekend and it was super fun. Be sure to sign up for your local car club's AutoX novice training class. You'll get more runs in than a normal event and there will be instructors on hand to ride along with you on every run to give tips and advice on how to improve your driving skills.
General novice tips: Try to brake and accelerate in a straight line, find a good rhythm with your steering when you go thru the slaloms, get dedicated summer tires if you can for better traction, and don't be afraid to kill a cone or two.

Re: Autocross anyone? (skwirl)

Painters tape is your friend, tape up your front end because you WILL tag a few cones your first time lol.
The training instruction course that you take in the Novice class is key, you will get more seat time and better instruction than just going out there and throwing your car around a parking lot haha.
Different wheels and tires id say is a must as well. Autocross can tear up some tires and a tire thats designed for spirited/autocross will make the world of difference.

Re: Autocross anyone? (ForceFed Motorsports)

wow guys thanx a bunch. I just got a deal on some team dynamics 17inch rims, so when they get installed, I am signing up for the fist class. They have 3 different novice classes in the DC area, level 1-3. I am really pumped about getting started.

I've Auto-xd my car a hand full of times and its a blast! Beat out a Boxster, Audi A3 and an RX-8!! Learn to Auto-x on street tires and a stock suspension, once you get comfortable with that set up move up to R-Compounds and Shocks / Struts (or) Coilovers and you'll be even faster!!!

Re: Autocross anyone? (s40boy)

I have AutoX'd my car many times, you get better every time, try and get a ride with an experienced driver you can learn a lot.
Last time I went I fared 7th/32 in my class, would of actually taken first my fastest time was a DNF - I took the wrong gate on my fastest run (which actually worsened my time) lol
Make sure you tires are pumped some ppl like to add a psi or two for better traction just make sure its even on left and right.
Don't be intimidated at first its easy not to know where to go and find urself off track depending how difficult the track is. If they offer a novice walk through do it! They will show you all the turns and how to take them - SPATIAL learning is key! Also remember smooth is fast, even though its fun to get the car going sideways you will lose valuable time and valuable tires! lol
Also try not to be too aggressive my car has no traction switch and can take a lot but when I start making excessively sharp turns and even start to lose control the volvo will take over and you will get a very sudden pulsation of the brakes that may cost u time!!
Here are some pics for your enjoyment.

(Note: Avg time was >67 in my class)

Water on the course made things interesting AWD FTW

Re: Autocross anyone? (PasS40ion)

haha no way man, are you and aggie? I raced out at riverside my first 2.5 years there and kinda went on hiatus when my second set of tires were toast. Are you a student? I graduated 2 weeks ago just fyi.
I wish I would have known, I might have come out there and help you show everyone what's up with volvo's. I always ran SSM or STU. I ran G stock and won it whenever there were no mini's. I switched to the modified classes after the tune. I never raced with my IC. SSM is fun but some of those cars are fast as hell. Whenever there was another entry in STU I would go play. I dunno if it was me or the car, but I felt like I was pretty competitive. the T5 is pretty good for autoX with such a high and wide torque curve. I'm hoping to buy some slicks from https://www.fossport.com/product_view.aspx?cat=9 and do some track days outside of Ft Worth where I'm about to move to. Sorry for the long post, thanks and gig 'em

I did see an S60R once but it was some guy taking his mom's car to the track not an enthusiast haha. And sorry to say but I am not from A&M I'm from bear country I'm an undergrad. We have a club called BDC and we drive to College Station for the autocrosses and hold one of our own at Mineral Wells Airport. I def agree with you about the T5, it does way better than I would expect at autocross that low band peak torque helps a lot! My 6 month old tires are shot though Time for R compounds!
