Martin,
When I head out to Cologne in Sept I've read that you can't drive into the city center unless you live in the city. Is this true?? If so, are there 'park n rides'?

I'll try to post a video from my 1st autobahn experience as an adult after my trip in Sept.

aaron, this - not driving into cologne unless you are a resident - is completely new to me.
maybe something the government planned and never got through with?
have you got a link to this information?

Martin, sorry I got Koln mixed up with another city. But you guys do have this:
As of January 1, 2008, Cologne requires all cars to have a "Low Emissions" sticker in order to drive around in the city center (Low Emission Zone, "Umweltzone"). Information on obtaining a sticker (which must be done at least several weeks in advance)
http://wikitravel.org/en/Koln

thats right, you have to have a "low emissions" zone sticker on your car... at least if you live in germany. don't really know how this is treated with if you come from abroad... because I think a lot of people i.e. from the netherlands (which is really near by) don't even bother going to the german TUV and buying a sticker...
if you want, I can check with my local TUV guy, so you really know if it's necessary.

ermm... not quite the same topic, but I figured opening another thread was unneccessary...
I was driving back today to cologne, and met a guy (and his wife and little daughter) with a murdered out 318i at a petrol station... told him that I liked his car ... he seemed really nice...
long story short, I stayed there for a while (he drove off already) and then set off about half an hour later...
then there was a traffic jam, and I had to halt... tried to see what was the cause... and about half an hour later, when things were moving again, I drove past a (murdered out) - completely burned out 318i, with something crashed into it that looked like a ford fiesta.
I'm ... shocked. hope they are all ok.

Re: (crossie)

Wow, that does suck. I've had a similar experience once where I met a guy who was super nice with two young boys and a hot wife. A week after meeting him he was killed by a drunk driver. He was a ranger for the Forest Service, a ton of law enforcement people from all over WA came to his funeral and the procession was super long. Really sad though, because he had those two young boys who now have to grow up without a father because some idiot thought drinking was cool while driving.
However, I was going to ask you guys: when you are going fast -say over 80, 100, 120, 130, whatever- does it feel like you are? I've felt like in either of my Volvos I drive (s60 or my S40) that I am not going that fast because it is quieter, smoother, etc than any other vehicle I've been in at those speeds...

Re: (carreragt7)

Interesting question because i was thinkin the same... our cars dont seem to exibit any type of rear downforce and not much in the front either. Seems like the car would feel loose at those speeds.
Sort of on topic but a different car. I installed a reputable rear spoiler on my track car and was amazed at how much more balanced the car was after i had already installed a front splitter. Car was solid blasting down the straight at Pacific raceway

The S40 and S60 dont convey speed as well as some of the older ones( bar a 544 or P1800 wo speedometers). The S70 you can tell you were rolling. Not so much with the newer ones, this fact has almost got me in trouble on a few occasions. It is kinda odd, considering the S40 and S60's sit up higher, at least bumper clearance wise compared to the S70.

Re: (lawsotk)

Yeah, I have found myself getting close to 100 in a 75 zone without even realizing it. Quiet in the cabin, smooth driving, etc. I have really had to use my cruise control in this car, whereas in previous cars I never used it.
