Does anyone know where I can find an automatic transmission shifter for a 98 V70, non turbo? I checked some websites but no luck, I would like to know of other options before paying a premium price at the local dealer.
The problem: the shifter button is starting to stick and prevents me from putting the car in the "park" position and cannot remove the key. The sticking problem just began 2 weeks ago. The car has 128K.
Thanks for any help.

Re: Auto Trans shifter (mssurfn1)

I had two solutions...
Put the shifter in L or whatever is the furthest back, then that button, pull the button outward, and you can stick the stick of a WD-40 spray can and spray some in there... then put the button in and out a few times till it loosens up.
the other solution is that the stickiness might be caused by the leather wrapped part has become loosened inside. you can try lubing it with some Wd-40/or a vynyl treatment (vynylex) or try to take a pic, and fish out the leather and cut the excess piece off. I did that with mine and havent had a problem since...
I THINK this is what you are talking about....

oh and to remove the key, put the shifter in P, and bang the back of the handle... the button should pop out.

Thanks for the remedy. I like the caveman version of banging the shifter to pop out the button. (note: I did the research and there are no cavemen around, however "caveman" types abound).
Thanks again.

WD-40 worked for me and keeps working after doing it to it over a year ago.

I too have had this problem on and off. The WD-40 is a fix but you can also try spraying compressed air in there which works.
Also you can remove that center console and spray the line going into the shifter to remove any gunk in there which causes this sticking.
